Homemade Barbeque Sauce

What you need:

1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon dark molasses
juice of 1/2 lemon
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (I use Tobasco)

What you do:

Mix the ingredients.
For items that take a while to cook, don't put the sauce on until it is almost done. If you put it on too early, or if the fire is too hot, the vegan sugar and molasses will burn, and that's how you get that unpleasant charcoaly taste.'

SO HOW'D IT GO?

yum, this was really good. I think it would be perfect with some liquid smoke, but I didn't have any on hand (it was still awesome!) I didn't add the brown sugar, I just added an extra TB of molasses.

It sounds very simple and yummy, but I can't find molasses. Can it be replaced?  :'(

dark corn syrup, pure maple syrup, maybe even brown rice syrup

I really liked this! :> Although I made a few adjustments...

I used half the molasses (I find it can be a dominate flavor) then I added a ton of smokey flavor and let it simmer for about 30 minutes or so.

I love using this recipe to dip my homemade pizza in! Yummmmm!!

this was really great on the vegan "bbq chikin" pizza that we made last night.  tasting it on its own though, seems a bit ketchuppy to me, so maybe next time I'll have to add more other stuff to get it where I want it or something...hmm...

but on the pizza it was delicious! maybe it just needs to be cooked a little to really bring out the flavors...

either way, I will be using this recipe again.  tweaking and evaluating :) thanks!!

PERFECT!
I had fried some tofu and went to get the BBQ sauce that I had out of the cupboard... and it was a little expired. Then I tasted it, and it was NASTY! I came on vegweb and found this recipe. The best part? I had all the ingredients (except the mollasses, not sure what it is exactly? I used 1/2 as much in maple syrup instead lol)... perfect! Took all of 2 minutes to make. :)

Delicious recipe! I added a few drops of liquid smoke and put it all in the microwave for about 2 minutes. Yum!

it would be really good if it was simmered on the stove on way low for 30 minutes or more,  to let all of the flavors melt together

liquid smoke sounds really good for it!
