Grandma's Perfect and Easy Apple Crisp
4 cups apples, sliced or chopped
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
pinch salt
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
nonstick spray
3/4 cup flour (I use whole wheat pastry)
1/2 cup organic "white" sugar (not sucanat)
1/4 cup vegan margarine (I use regular Earth Balance), melted
pinch salt
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Toss apples with cinnamon, salt, water, and lemon juice.
2. Spray a pie pan or 10 X 6 pan with nonstick spray (or oil it). Place apple mixture in pan.
3. Mix together well the topping: flour, sugar, margarine, and salt. Crumble it over the apple mixture.
4. Bake until topping becomes a little browned, usually about 50-60 minutes or so.
I like to serve this with some nondairy milk poured on top. One of my favorite recipes of childhood. I omitted the dairy and cut the fat and sugar content way, way down. It still tastes decadent and wonderful to me!
SO HOW'D IT GO?
So glad you liked it, Britt!

This recipe is great! Super easy and hardly takes anything. I have made a couple with the kids to use up the apples from our tree. I have given them to vegans and non-veggies alike, everyone loves them! The apples I have are very tart, so added a couple teaspoons sugar to the apple mixture as well. Thanks for the fab recipe! :)>>>
yummy! i threw in a splash of apple cider vinegar instead of lemon. i used 1/4 cup oats and 1/4 cup chopped almonds too, so I upped the EB by 2 tbsp. i love how simple this. it is just perfect.
Great! Glad you liked it! :)
Mmmmm! This is a great recipe. My daughters (ages 8 and 11) actually did most of the cooking. They added blueberries and sliced strawberries to the apple mixture. Two thumbs up!
