Easy, Basic Waffles in the Morning

What you need: 

1 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
berries, to taste, optional
chocolate chips, to taste, optional
1 cup nondairy milk (I use soy)
1/2 cup applesauce

What you do: 

1. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl with berries or chocolate chips, if using. Mix the wet ingredients in a different bowl. Combine and mix until just mixed up.
2. Preheat waffle iron and spray with some nonstick oil (or wipe down with some oil). That's important cause they stuck like mad to the iron when we made them.
3. Cook according to the waffle maker's instructions, which usually means putting about 1/4 cup batter on the iron, closing, and waiting for a light to go out.
Source of recipe: My gf and I wanted some waffles but most of the vegan recipes we found were not "basic" enough and had all sorts of ingredients we didn't have on hand. We modified a recipe and here it is.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

These were so goood !! I put strawberies and chocolate chips in mine and they were AMAZING!! My family could not believe that they did not have any milk,egg,or butter in them !!

Great recipe!  I made mine with a Tbsp of oil and didn't need to spray down the waffle iron.  Now I just need to learn to be patient enough to not open the iron mid cook!  I added blueberries, a great touch.

I just made these this morning, and as usual, perfection. Didn't stick, made the perfect amount (I doubled the recipe), wonderful as always. Try adding a T of oil to the batter, this combined w/ a bit of spray on the waffle iron is the perfect anti-stick combo. Oh, and I add a teas. of vanilla extract, and a half teas. of almond extract. Yummers!! :)>>>

Not the best waffle recipe ever. I was quite happy when the waffles didn't stick to the waffle iron, but the waffles became soggy when they cooled, and the moisture made them stick to the plate. The waffles tasted good; they weren't anything special. Thanks for the recipe. :)

hmm, that's odd...Maybe your iron wasn't hot enough when you poured in the batter?  or maybe they just needed an extra minute or two to cook...

Every time I've made these, I cook them until the outsides are a nice golden brown, crispy, and just barely a challenge to cut through with a butter knife.  Even after they've cooled, they're in great shape and retain a pretty good texture....I know this because I typically make them for other people first, and I don't get around to eating the one I've set aside for myself until I'm all done cooking and at least partially done with clean-up, heh.... ::)

So, if anyone else has this problem of soggy or sticky waffles, you might ust need to cook them a bit longer.  If you're concerned about getting the outsides too crispy, you could even try baking them in the oven/toaster oven, covered (or wrapped in foil, if you're cool with that) for a few minutes.

Hey these came out pretty good.  My only changes were that I used a banana instead of applesauce, and I added 1 tablespoon of a sweetner.  One time sugar and another time honey.  Thanks for sharing.

I made this recipe this morning exactly as it calls for and they were a huge hit.  I made them for a retirement breakfast party for a colleague who is lactose intolerant and everyone loved them.  One co-coworker said that she liked them better than regular waffles.  (P.S.  I didn't get any myself as they were all gone by the time I got to the buffet table but I'll trust my co-workers and make some for myself on a weekend morning!).

These are hands down the best vegan waffles I have made!  Thanks for the quick & dirty recipe... they were ready in no time! It's super easy to double the recipe to feed two hungry kids & a pregnant cook :) !  I used 2 tbls of vegetable oil (for the doubled recipe), Silk Vanilla, & a dash or two of Vanilla... absolutely fantastic! The kids liked them so much & had to hide the last two so my husband could have a taste!  ;D  I'm definitely making these again!

Oh man! these puff up so much! :D
I used ground flax instead of the applesauce and I added maybe 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
I also added finely chopped strawberries and pecans.

I'll deffinately make these again.

baypuppy's waffles part two: electric boogaloo-berry

blueberries are an excellent addition to this recipe, but be sure to have your iron thoroughly oiled up...they stick like crazy!
