Corn Puppies

What you need:

1/2 cup flour
1 1/2 cups cornmeal
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/3 cup onion, minced
1/4 cup jalapeno pepper, minced
3 tablespoons egg replacer (http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=7678.0)
3 tablespoons canola oil
1 cup plain nondairy milk (I use soy)
oil, as needed for deep frying
1 (12 ounce) package vegan hot dogs, cut into thirds

What you do:

1. Combine dry ingredients. Heat oil for frying. (I use a Fry Daddy)
2. Add remaining ingredients, except frying oil and hot dogs, and stir until blended.
3. Dip each hot dog piece in batter and immediately drop into hot grease. Fry until golden brown.
You can also just make hushpuppies with the batter.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

OK, so I spent a week trying new appetizers and finger food recipes every night in hopes that I would find one that could stay in my recipe box forever (and be hit with a bunch of omnis at my sister's graduation party). Needless to say, I found it! These are amazingly good and, I'm sure, horribly bad for you. Score!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

i usually just add cayenne pepper to my cornbreaded type recipes, but i think minced jalapeno is MUCH better! this recipe knocked it out of the park. i love you
