Chick'n Bake

What you need:

Dough:
1 tablespoon yeast
1/2 cup lukewarm water
1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted margarine Filling:
1/2 (10 ounce) package vegan mozzarella cheese, divided (I use Follow Your Heart)
1/4 cup fake bacon bits (I use Bac'uns)
1/4 cup green onion, chopped
1 (12 ounce) package vegan chick'n strips (I use Lightlife Chick'n Strips )
1 tablespoon vegan ranch sauce, divided

What you do:

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Grate about 1/2 the cheese; don't put all of the cheese in the filling bowl, put a little bit in a second bowl because you'll need it later.
2. Add bac'uns into a bowl add a tablespoon water; warm in the microwave for 30 seconds. This just softens them up so they aren't crunchy. Add the softened bac'uns to the filling bowl. Add green onion to filling bowl along with the chick'n strips.
3. For dough, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add remaining dough ingredients and mix. Knead dough until it is smooth. Cut the dough into 2 pieces and roll each piece out flat.
4. Put 1/2 tablespoon ranch sauce in the middle of 1/2 the dough and spread it not all the way to the edges, but almost. Add 1/2 the filling, and pull the dough over the filling making a pocket.
5. Roll the ends together and pinch them in a little. Repeat with other 1/2 dough and filling. Sprinkle a little of the remaining cheese onto the top of the chick'n bakes and place in the oven until the whole thing is golden brown.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

This is very educational content and written well for a change. It's nice to see that some people still understand how to write a quality post!

didnt like this recipe.  the filling needed more flavor and was kind of bland with the dough just not having any flavor besides tasting like dough.

Sounds like you needed to add a little more salt to the recipe.

Awesome recipe ;)b. Me and the boyfriend were like "mmm this is so good" in between bites. My bf wasn't sure he'd like it ("wheres the pizza sauce hun, isn't this a calzone thingy..?") but he ended up LOVING it. I used cut up strips of the Gardein chicken patties and didn't sprinkle cheeze on the dough but instead brushed it with rosemary and olive oil. Served it with homemade veg ranch to dip. Afterwords we made a game out of randomly saying "chick'n bake!"  throughout the day.

My fiance loved this recipe! I did have a little trouble getting the top of the dough to fold into the bottom though, so it was a little messy to eat.

I used crumbled tempeh hickory strips instead of bacon bits and it turned it great.

Very Yum!
I made them just like I was supposed to, except instead of adding my ranch to the filling, we used it as a dipping sauce......I'm not a fan of bacon bits, but they didn't really bother me in this recipe.  However, I do think I'll use some tempeh bacon strips next time instead.....

This was absolutely amazing. I cooked mine for 20 minutes and used Almond Cheese for the filling. I'm not sure why some one was saying it was too salty, I didn't find it salty at all! I used bac-os, so maybe it is something to do with the bacon-bits used? The sauce I used was as follows: 2 TBL veganaise + 1 tsp lemon juice + 1/4 tsp minced garlic (as opposed to ranch) so that could also have something to do with it. Seriously, try it with that sauce (using half the serving for each chick'n' bake). Not at all salty and completely delicious!

I was not a fan of this recipe!! I mad the filling and ate it while it was cooking and that tasted good...but then after it came out of the oven it was sooo salty and my dough was tough. I know the dough was my fault but the saltiness was to much for me.

This came out wonderfully!  I didn't make my own dough though.  I bought pizza dough from Whole Foods and used that instead.  My DH loved it!!  I'll be making this again.  Oh, and I didn't have green onion so I used a little brown onion.  Super yummy!!!  Baked for about 25 minutes.
