Chewy Granola Bars

What you need:

2 cups vegan rice crispies
2 cups dry oatmeal
1 cup cranberries, raisins, or any other chopped dehydrated fruit
1/2 cup hulled unsalted sunflower seeds
1/2 cup chopped almonds
1 cup light vegan corn syrup
3/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon margarine

What you do:

Get a large bowl and add the rice crispies, oatmeal, choice of dried fruit, sunflower seeds, and almonds. Mix them together and pull the pieces of fruit apart if they stick together. Grease a deep dish pan (around 9x15x2) with some margarine.
Next, in a medium large pot, add 1 cup light corn syrup and heat until it starts to boil, then add the vegan sugar. Turn down the heat, add margarine, and stir until vegan sugar is dissolved.
Remove pot from stove and add the dry ingredients. Mix with large spoon until all of the dry stuff is mixed in with the corn syrup/vegan sugar. Add this to the greased pan, spread it out evenly, then place a sheet of wax paper over it and press it down or roll it out flat with a jar or can. Remove wax paper and let sit for 1 hour.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

I made these and they tasted really good (I didn't add the sugar, though), but they fell apart when I cut them into bars.  How can I make them more durable?

these were good, really good!
I added dried pineapple, 2 tablespoons of ground flax, and 1/4 cup of sugar and  instead of almonds I dry-toasted some soynuts. It cuts down the fat a ton! I knew they were gonna be sweet... but cutting down on corn syrup may comprimise the "chewy" part.
oh, and fel%EDne is right. Honey is poser shit.  Agave nectar might do the trick, too!
