Braised Tofu

What you need:

4 1lb blocks of extra-firm frozen tofu (unthawed)
Dry Batter:
2 1/2 cups unbleached flour
2 tablespoon garlic powder
2 tablespoon garlic powder
1/3 cup nutritional yeast
1 tablespoon sea salt or vegesalt
Wet Batter:
2 cups unbleached flour
2 tablespoon paprika
2 cups water or enough for thick consistency
2 cups veg. oil or enough for deep frying
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/3 cup teriyaki sauce
2 minced garlic cloves
2 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 cups of maple syrup

What you do:

Preheat oven @ 350 degrees.
Squeeze all water from unthawed tofu and cut into strips.
For dry batter, sift flour and add all other dry ingredients. Mix well.
For wet batter, mix dry ingredients well and add water.
Begin with the wet batter. Completely immerse tofu pieces into wet batter and them completely cover wet pieces with the dry batter.
Place tofu in hot oil (use a wok or medium sized pot) and cook tofu until golden brown. Drain tofu on paper towels to soak up excess oil.
Blend soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, minced garlic, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper and maple syrup together in a blender.
After tofu has drained, place tofu in large baking dish and pour sauce evenly over tofu. Bake for 20 minutes, then toss tofu to evenly coat it, bake again for 10 minutes. Remove from oven, serve.
Enjoy!!!
