BeNo--You Know You Need It!!

What you need:

1 cup water
1/8 teaspoon crushed mint
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

What you do:

Mix the above ingredients together. Gulp it down just before your meal--or during.
As vegans, I'm sure we're all aware of the wonderful effects our diet has on our body. Unfortunately...one side effect for vegans is EXCESSIVE flatulence. Blech! If anyone's ever told you the fib that "eventually your body will get used to your diet, and it will go away"--you've been duped!!
Maybe my body is just prone to foulness, but either way, this above remedy works wonders. Try it and see!
You can substitute crushed mint with sage or thyme.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

One of the biggest reasons people get gas is not chewing their food well.  When you swallow larger pieces of food your digestive system has to work harder to break it down, which leads to gas-burping & farting.

This definately got me out of some potentially disasterous indian dinner party aftershocks, it doesnt get rid of gas entirely, but I've tried some of the over the counter remedies and they havent worked as well as this does. If you're not into the idea of drinking the baking soda-sage concoction, drinking warm lemon water 30 minutes before a meal helps to rev up the digestion system so food isnt so harsh on your body.

Yeah, well, unfortunately this didn't work at all for me or my girlfriend.  Good luck.

Thank You!  I think you are the only one who left a review that has actually tried this recipe.  As I recently heard an author on "natural/herbal rememdies" say that "not every cure works for every 'body', which is why there are so many cures for the same ailments".  So this recipe may work for some, but not for others.  I did a search and found a few amusing web pages discussing Natural Remedies for Flatulence.

My personal favorite is Pavanamuktasana or Wind Relieving pose, and here is a really cute animation on how to do this:

can one use fresh mint in place of the "crushed"

I thought the recipe was refering to Crushed Fresh Mint, as opposed to dried mint.  As a general cooking rule of thumb fresh herbs are always better than dried, and usually uses less for the same flavor.

I'll have to make that, it makes shopping in a bookstore stressful to keep having to evade other customers or step outside or find the washroom just so you can let it go lol I've been hoping it would just stop on its own after a while.
