BeNo--You Know You Need It!!

What you need:

1 cup water
1/8 teaspoon crushed mint
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

What you do:

Mix the above ingredients together. Gulp it down just before your meal--or during.
As vegans, I'm sure we're all aware of the wonderful effects our diet has on our body. Unfortunately...one side effect for vegans is EXCESSIVE flatulence. Blech! If anyone's ever told you the fib that "eventually your body will get used to your diet, and it will go away"--you've been duped!!
Maybe my body is just prone to foulness, but either way, this above remedy works wonders. Try it and see!
You can substitute crushed mint with sage or thyme.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

I left out the mint but WOW...my boyfriend and I thank you ;)b Apparently I've been stinking up the bed while I'm asleep, ugh! The worst!  TMI, I know I know.  :P  This little concoction truly does the trick though.

Thank you so much for this recipe!  I drank it before a meal that contained lots of whole wheat pasta (which ALWAYS seems to stink up the next day for me) and it worked!!  Not a total elimination of course, but definitely a significant reduction (the 90% mentioned earlier was right on).  I used 2 fresh pineapple mint leaves from my garden and loaded the cup with ice- I thought it tasted great!

I'd like to start drinking this fairly often...does anyone know if there are any bad side affects from consuming so much baking soda?

Yay!! no more "reminders" ^-^ of what I had for dinners h o u r s  after I ate. This drink really works wonders. I personally think it taste good and is refreshing ,plus the baking soad makes the water soft which is a nice touch. Thnx for recipie, I drink it with all of my fiberous meals

I've tried this, and it definitely works, but I'm just curious... has anyone "cheated" and grabbed a bottle of Metromint's lemonmint water and just added some baking soda? The idea is tempting to me, especially on those days when I'm running late (often!) and don't have any time to whip this up before work.

The Metromint website even says "Metromint settles your stomach. Comsume before a meal and increase the flow of digestive juices. After dinner, mint soothes the lining of the digestive tract." I might try adding some baking soda to it and see what happens (or doesn't happen, would be better!).

Any thoughts?

Okay. I had made it with thyme, and it didn't work at all! What gives?

And can you use peppermint? Like the sticks?

Hi,
Thyme and mint are two different plant families.  They don't have the same properties.  The mint you need is the stuff growing in your garden-any kind.  Peppermint, spearmint and applemint all work.  If you don't have access to a garden w/mint in it, look in the fresh herbs at your grocery store.  In a pinch, You could use dried mint.  Peppermint sticks are totally different- processed sugar with flavoring added.
The big thing is to chew your food really well. When you swallow chunks of food, you're also swallowing air & it has to come out somehow :o

But the person who made it said it could be sustituted with thyme or sage...?

Wow. I'm commenting this sucker up, in addition to my other thoughts. Can you use less water? Because if I have to drink a cup of this stuff, its so much, so ungodly bad. I could take a shot of pure barf. That would be better.
