BeNo--You Know You Need It!!

What you need:

1 cup water
1/8 teaspoon crushed mint
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

What you do:

Mix the above ingredients together. Gulp it down just before your meal--or during.
As vegans, I'm sure we're all aware of the wonderful effects our diet has on our body. side effect for vegans is EXCESSIVE flatulence. Blech! If anyone's ever told you the fib that "eventually your body will get used to your diet, and it will go away"--you've been duped!!
Maybe my body is just prone to foulness, but either way, this above remedy works wonders. Try it and see!
You can substitute crushed mint with sage or thyme.

Lol I thought it was just me.... Will try this!

hubby had an upset tummy and asked me to make that "one thing" i had made for him the last time he had an upset tummy. it seems to be working well

I was wondering why I had an inflate in the most stinkiest farts ever. I hope this works after meals too because I already ate (cabbage salad too, those farts SMELLLLLLLLLLLLLL!) but I want to try this anyways.    ;)b
Does lime work the same as lemon??

a spoonful of sugar DOES help the medicine go down!

I added a teeny bit a honey and it slide down much more easily.  i can't imagine that can make much diff to the effectiveness since there is usually a bit of sugar in ma belly anyhow.  ;)

I have heard that vegetarians and vegans are prone to gas problems. I have found this to be especially true of most people that I know who fall into those categories.

I like to send simple at-home remedies to my friends for common ailments, so I am very excited to send this out and see if it works for anyone!

Get rid of flatulence?  You talk like it's a curse!  There's hours of fun you can find in lighting farts.

I made this and drank it out of desperacy after the fact- do you have to drink it BEFORE meals or will whenever work?

After reading all the nice comments I thought I might mention that we are talking about Sodium Bicarbonate
and it weighs in at a whopping 600mg of Sodium per 1/2 Teaspoon.
I just thought this might be worth mentioning as it would be something to consider in an overall diet regimen.
Personally, as a guy I don't worry about farting it's a part of life.
Also, I would like to say that I love this site as I just switched from eating meat to a diet based on vegetables
although at this time I am still eating eggs and cheese my plans for the future are vegan.
Eating meat and being a man in the American culture is rooted deep and takes a lot of struggle to break free
of those mental attitudes but I feel so much better now that I don't ever intend on going back.
So, to all those who have added recipes to this site a heartfelt thanks.
The recipes I have tried are delicious.

I wonder if it works for gas created by cabbage....  ;P

I may have to give this a try. Luckily my body loves beans and lentils (not many emmissions from those :) ), but not seitan (which, unfortunatily, my BF adores and wants to eat it constantly). I've tried taking 1-2 tsp. of apple cider vinegar in 4 oz. of cranberry juice and it works but is very unpleasent going down.
