BBQ Tofu Cubes

What you need:

1 tablespoon oil
1 pound firm tofu, drained and diced
2/3 cup vegan BBQ sauce
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons soy sauce (I use low sodium)
Louisiana hot sauce, to taste
1 tablespoon sugar

What you do:

1. Heat oil in frying pan and add tofu. Saute on medium until the tofu starts to turn a light golden color.
2. Meanwhile, combine the rest of the ingredients, and heat them in the microwave for 1 minute. Stir this sauce and add it to the tofu.
3. Continue to cook on medium until the sauce has gotten very thick.
Very popular with toddlers!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

Wow! This was so good. I don't like my tofu thick, so I cut it into thin strips instead of cubes. My three year old had seconds, and I like it so much I'm going to pass the recipe along to my ex husband! Now that's special  ;D

Yummy, yummy, yummy! The sauce for the tofu is scrumptious! I couldn't help but spoon some leftover sauce out of the pan and eat it. The tofu came out soft, but I didn't mind at all. I made this with the spicy fries on this website. Delicious!

I used frozen thawed tofu and a teriyaki ginger bbq sauce.  This was sooooo good. I even took another block of tofu out of the freezer so I can have this later on in the week!!!

I'm glad someone else reviewed this today....that's why I made it! It was great! I did marinate mine in tamari/lemon juice/garlic powder first.....and used Amy's BBQ sauce with no HFCS.
Next time I will use less or even omit the water so the sauce is thicker and stickier. I also added cornstarch to the sauce to help it thicken.

Served with cornbread, collards, and baked potatoes. YUM!!!! ;)b

This was so so good. We served this with brown rice sweet potato and corn. Next time I am going to serve it with corn bread!! YumYum! My kids really liked it and asked for seconds! I wish I could find a good bbq sauce without HFCS. I didn't have time to make my own. Anyway, it is a great recipe. Highly recommend.

I love sweet barbecue sauce and this was fabulous and very easy.  Next time, I think I will marinate the tofu in the sauce first and then bake it.  This was really great and kid friendly.

This is now our favorite recipe (out of a lot of recipes!). It came out absolutely perfect. I use extra firm nonsilken tofu that has been frozen, thawed, and squeezed. I sprinkled some cornstarch over the cubes (but I don't know if it actually did anything, in this case. I used sriracha, and just added some soy sauce and sugar. I fried my tofu in canola oil until golden..added the sauce...and it took about 10-15 minutes to really thicken. I served it over brown rice and asparagus on the side. Soooo good! The texture and flavor were both perfect! Thanks!
