Simple Sweet & Sour

Sauce:

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    1 tablespoon corn starch
    1/3 cup Brown sugar
    1/2 teaspoon Freshly minced ginger
    1 tablespoon Soy Sauce
1/4 cup vinegar (I used Rice Vinegar)
    1/4 cup vegetable broth

Directions:

Vegetables of your choice.  I used:

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    1/2 red onion
    2 cloves garlic
    1 cup chopped up carrots
    1/2 yellow bell pepper
    1 yellow zucchini
    3 cups chopped up mushrooms
    1 handful snow peas

Directions:

Mix together the soy sauce, vinegar and vegetable broth.  Separately, mix together the corn starch and the brown vegan sugar.  Add the corn starch, brown vegan sugar mixture to the liquids.  Add in the minced ginger.  Set this mixture aside.  Saute the vegetables in some additional broth.  Just before the vegetables are cooked, add in the liquid mixture that was set aside, and saute for an additional two minutes.

I served this over brown rice.  It looked as good as it tasted.

This dish has nice flavour, and goes well with rice or on its own.

We run a tight daily schedule. This is a tasty dish, that only takes about as long as the rice cooker. All of us...kids included ... are quite happy with it; its now one of our preferred menu items.

Really good...I used red onions in the stirfry and added a can of "mock chicken" (Asian seitan) and made a great lunch. We must do this again! Wink

Wowiee!
This was fantastic!

The sauce was soo good.
I used half a red bell pepper, broccoli, carrot coins and snowpeas and steamed them for a few minutes to make them softer.
I also put it all over rice noodles. YUM.

I added two cloves of garlic and a dash of red pepper flakes, I also used green onions(two small, chopped). I served it on sautéed tofu with broccoli and red bell pepper, over rice. I know, not much like the original recipe, but it was *so* good!

I added some fried tofu and it came out very good and filling. Honestly, I was a little skeptical when I smelled it cooking (it smelled very strongly of the rice vinegar, which reminds me of sake), but it tasted delicious anyway and was very colorful as well.

really good recipe.  Ease in preparation is imprtant to me.  I doubled the recipe, and put "play chicken" pineapple snap peas carrots and corn.  I also used a little more cornstarch, which made it more of a glaze. Thanks for the recipe.

This was good!  I used it as more of a base and added more garlic, but I really enjoyed it!

This is awesome.  My boyfriend said it tastes just like the sweet and sour stuff you can get at Chinese restaurants.  Nom nom nom:)
