Recipe submitted by Julie Chin

Bo Bo Cha Cha

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

1 medium size yam (cut into small cubes)
3 to 4 small sweet potatoes (cut into small cubes)
4 pieces of pandan leaves (tie into a knot)
    1 small cup of sago
    coconut milk from 1 coconut
    1.5 litres of water

Directions:

Bring the water to a boil in a pot. Meanwhile, cut yam and potatoes into cubes, and put into the pot. Add pandan leaves. Wash sago and set aside.

Put 2/3 of the coconut milk into the pot. Let it boil on low heat for 10 minutes, then add sago. Boil for another 10 minutes, or until yam and potatoes are done to your liking.  Add a small amount of water and coconut milk if too thick.  Leave some coconut milk for serving.

Serve in a small bowl, with a little coconut milk on top.

Serves: 6

Preparation time: 30 mins

What is sago?

Archived comment by: sherron
sago is powdery starch from certain sago palms; used in Asia as a food thickener and textile stiffener - this is from a web dictionary.  But I had ever seen they used something like pea(transparent) which is made from this sago powder to cook dessert, I think this is what we should use here.  And I also have a question here, what's the pandan leaf? where can I get it? thanks.
