Can anyone tell me where I can find sambal oelek? I have looked all over the place around my area. No one has ever heard of it. My diet that I'm on for gallbladder problems (The Liver Cleansing Diet by Dr. Cabot) calls for sambal oelek. You can e-mail me direct at

Susie, i live in sambal heaven (amsterdam). colonial times brought us over 80 varieties, sambal badjak perhaps the best. being almost a daily part of my diet, i travel with a jar or two. howe'ver, next to impossible to find in usa. conimex (part of evil unilever) has a brand there, and it is lousy. follow the recipe, maybe adding a dash of un-refined sugar...or buy koningsvogel brand mailorder from

Susie, if you want the red paste version try looking in Asian food markets. I buy Huy Fong Foods brand at my local grocer in the Oriental Section it comes from Rosemead CA and has a website
www.huyfong.com on the jar. Hope this is helpful.
