Lentil BurgersIngredients (use vegan versions): 1 cup lentils
3 cup water
1 cup cooked grain or ww flour
2 teaspoon gr cumin
2 teaspoon gr coriander
1 teaspoon tamari soy sauce
1 small onion chopped (optional)
3 tablespoon butter or oil (Optional) (The recipe calls for this... but I don't use it, and don't miss it)
Directions:Cook Lentils in water for 45 minutes, until soft. Add remaining ingred. (except butter) to the cooked lentils. The burger dough should be stiff. Add more ww flour or grain if it is too sticky to form into patties. Wet hands, and form into 1/4 thick patties. Fry patties on both sides in melted butter until crisp, or bake on a well-oiled cookie sheet @ 350 degrees for approx 30 min or until a crust forms. Makes 8-10 burgers. ( I use non-stick spray, and fry them in a skillet).
these weren't the greatest, but I think it was the spice recipe called for, try garlic or garlic salt or just some of your own spice choices, it will probably taste better. On a more positive note, they cooked up nice and they looked a heck of a lot like real hamburgers

I love these spices, but it tastes like a mouthful of them - a little stong. Maybe because I didn't use onion, oil, except a little to fry with, and brown rice, not ww flour? What did you all use? It has quite a nice flavour with some salt, but I wouldn't serve it to anyone else till I tried it the exact way, say Mike, did, who liked it a lot! Thanks for sharing it and for the comments!

I used canned, drained lentils with no water, so maybe that was why they also didn't hold as burgers! About how much water to use if I want to use canned lentils, and should it be boiling?

i made these today at my friend dots house. first of all, they fed three people and they were yummy... and secondly, i didn't use any of the spices you suggested--i used diana sauce, chicken seasoning, and garlic powder, and flour i used was cornflour. anyway, they were a hit, and they stuck together well, too.

Great! Thanks. I used some cayenne pepper to spice it up and oil instead of butter. Also granary flour which was excellent.Love it

These are really great - I find that if you cook the lentils until you can mash them, it makes the burger easier to form. We added quinoa, which was great. Try adding barbecue sauce to the lentils while they cook for a tasty twist!

The burgers held together very well for me. I replaced the spices with garlic powder, onion powder and cayenne, but it was still a little bland for me. Next time I make it, I'll double all the spices.
