These were very good. I baked them for 15 minutes then fried them in oil to give them a crispy coating. Then I served them on buns with ketchup and cheese. I'll definately make these again  Smiley

Made these tonight with spicy fries.  Delicious!  Pan cooked until dark brown, served on fluffy bread.  Will spice them up a little more next time, didn't have the courage to do the cayenne this time.  Made 5 patties total, so I have leftovers too!

I just made these.. completely ruined them! I made too much egg replacer, because I noticed someone said they used 1/4 cup of flax seed. It was far too much, but I carried on anyway and put a lot of the mix in the fridge. I was left with about 2 tbs egg replacer. I followed everything else as stated, with the exception of pinto beans + own seasoning, rye crumbs and oats for the breadcrumbs and a green pepper. The recipe says blend, however it's not clear whether this means by hand or machinery... I used a food processer because mashing things never worked well for me before. I added flour at the end of processing as it was too moist.
I cooked them nonetheless, ignoring the moisture. Put them on foil (which wasn't oiled - they stuck a lot), couldn't shape them (so wet), just splat them onto the foil and spread slightly with a spoon. I baked them for 40 minutes or so eventually, but they still weren't cooking through. The cooked bits tasted really nice, though the insides were basically refried beans, and bland. I'm sorry if I'm making the recipe sound bad, it's not, it's just my silly mistakes!
I've frozen the leftovers (3 burgers out of 4) and am thinking they might cook more next time they go in the oven. No one should be scared because of this review... it's just me! Just limit the liquid as much as possible. I ate it in pita bread with beansprouts, lettuce, cucumber and ketchup. Not sure that they go with ketchup, I think avocado/guacamole would be excellent though. Mustard and salsa would be good as well.
Anyway, thanks for the recipe! I'll try and make it again (correctly) when I can.. Thanks!

These were yummy with a capital Y!
I made them without the cilantro because I did not have any. Also I used Franks red hot sauce instead of cayenne because I didn't have ground cayenne. My egg substitute was 2Tbsp of Tahini which worked very well, they held together beautifully when forming into patties.
I had to bake them about 6 minutes longer than suggested but they turned out great, not too dry or mushy either.

I also had the Spicy Fries with my burgers using a recipe from this site.

Thanks for the great recipe!

What I liked about this recipe is that it was very quick and easy to make; surprisingly I had all the ingredients in my cupboard! My only disappointment was that I thought they were a bit bland.  Next time I will surely add more salt and spices.  Had I eaten this on a bun w/ condiments and vegetables that would have helped, but alone, they are bland.

These were really yummy. I cut down the cayenne pepper, added some cumin, sea salt and pepper to spice it up a bit, replaced green peppers with yellow, and didn't mash up the beans all the way (I left some intact). I also did 3/4 cup of whole bread crumbs and 1/4 cup of ground flax seed to make the burgers really nutrilicious with some omega 3's. I baked for 10 minutes and grilled on the foreman grill (as was previously suggested by someone else) and they turned out just the right texture. Great recipe! Thanks so much!!

I wasn't a fan of this recipe.. Sad It was my first time to try to make burgers, but it didn't work out at all. I pretty much stuck with the directions... used 1 cup homemade whole-wheat bread crumbs and baked them rather than frying.. I didn't need the oil because I was baking.. maybe I was supposed to put it in with the rest of the ingredients? Anyway, they didn't hold together at all after coming out of the oven; crumbled as I took them off the baking sheet. The remaining crumbles were really bland too Sad I dono where I went wrong, this sounded really good!

OMG!!! These make the best sandwiches ever!!!! I am so glad my burger buns didn't turn out right b/c I don't think it would have tasted right on a bun. I oven toasted some whole wheat bread and spread it with a garlic salt/smart balamce butter mixture. Then after the "burgers" were done I put them on the toast with sliced tomatoe and lettuce. The key is not to expect it to taste like a hamburger. It is more like a mushy sloppy sandwich.

I made a similar recipe, which used 2 slices of finely crumbled wheat bread to the mix and cracker crumbs instead of the bread crumbs. Awesome topped with hot peppers and vegan cheese! Leftovers are even better the next day!

I sauteed some onions and mushrooms and covered them with teriyaki and put that on the burger as well guacamole.  Mine came out real squishy (maybe they need to bake longer?), but I still loved how they tasted!

Oh my goodness, this was so good!!  My bf and I aren't actually vegan, but he is lactose intolerant and I hate cooking/eating meat.  So we LOVE this site, everyone here has great recipes!!  This recipe in particular is AWESOME!  We used two eggs instead of the substitue just to let ppl know.  Great recipe!  This is going to be one of our staples!

Goodness, what can I say except that I love them.  I made them the first time a couple of weeks ago and have been craving them ever since.  Have some made up in the fridge now so that I can pop one on the grill any time.

SO DELICIOUS! The lovely ladies at UW-Madison made these as part of our Karaoke Kitchen with limited space and resources in our dormitory kitchen. They were such a hit!!! They are soft, as other posts said, but we kept ours in the oven a tiny bit longer than recommended, then gave them a quick sear on the stove with some olive oil.  I was the only vegetarian in the group, but everybody loved them! Great flavor! We added a little extra of all the veggies in order amp up our veggie intake, and they were soooo delicious! We ate these with the Spicy Fries (also found on this site) and it was just the perfect meal!
