twetyntaz@msn.comGarbo BurgersIngredients (use vegan versions): 1 15 1/2 oz can garbanzo beans , drained
1 1/3 cup rolled oats
1 cup water
1 small onion or 1 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon olive oil
Directions:Run beans through a food processor till texture is like ground meat. Add remaining ingredients except oil. Let sit 10 to 15 minutes or till water is absorbed. Heat oil in skillet. Spoon patties into skilled and press into burger shapes. Cook on both sides till brown.
Notes: Can be used as meat alternative in other dishes, small patties can be used as finger food and/or dipped in sauces. Other seasonings may be added. Example: Italian seasonings or Mexican seasonings. Different sauces may be substituted for the soy sauce. I like a mock oyster sauce made from mushrooms that my local health food store has.
Serves: approx 6 patties
Preparation time: 20 min
I made the garbo burgers for my carniverous husband and son and they both loved the recipe. I did not tell them the ingredients, just that it was a patty. I will definitely include this recipe in my repertoire. Its easy to prepare and delicious.

These are good. I added some grated carrot to the mixture. Next time I will probably add some more seasoning as I found them to be just a tad on the bland side.

These were pretty darn good. I added some extra spices of old bay seasoning, cayenne pepper and black pepper, plus a handful of walnuts. Yum!

my first ever fake meat patty, the texture is fantastic! feels like the skys the limit with these ones, in terms of customization. next time i think ill add some sunflower seeds and lots of cayenne pepper. Hot tip: great as leftovers, slice cold as a great sandwich filler. yummy!

They look great, but do they hold together well in the pan? All my experience with bean patties is that they fall apart during the cooking.

When I fried them up in the pan, they held together very well! They did not break or crack one bit. I fried up 2 patties then put the rest of the batter in the fridge so I would fry only what I wanted to eat at that time. It worked very well for me. Just be sure to let it sit for 10-15 min. to soak up the water real good before frying.

These were good, i wasn't to sure what the texture was going to feel like in my mouth. are they supposed to be stiff in the middle as well? mine seemed already chewed...LOL. Too much water? if that happens again, should i add more oats?
