Cook the first side with the lid on, then remove lid for the second side. Serve in a burger bun with all the trimmings, or as an entree with vegetables.
Serves: 6
Preparation time: 15 min
I tried these today out on my grandmother and mother, who are not vegetarian (neither am I) and they were very good. I would try adding more spices next time, though. Maybe put sesame oil instead of the seeds and I'm going to try asian spices. Try them, they are good

I made the mistake of buying store-bought shredded carrots instead of grating them myself, so they were too long and thick to form patties with. So, I mashed it all up and threw it on the skillet - made a pretty good hamburger helper!

One question I did have: I'm fairly new to cooking with tofu (or cooking at all, for that matter); any advice on how to tell when the tofu is cooked well enough? It doesn't seem to brown much, especially when cooked mashed. Anyway, thanks for the great recipe. I'll be sure to try it again sometime. -Jeff

To be really digestible, tofu needs to be at boiling point for about 4 or 5 minutes. More than 5 minutes is fine, too. If you're cooking with liquids (as opposed to baking or frying), you'll see that it seems to loosen up a bit, or get a little fluffier when its cooked through.

I think its soya, not tofu that needs to be cooked to be digestible! Japanese people eat raw tofu all the time. The soya is cooked in the process of making tofu so you don't have to cook it again unless you want to.

Thanks for the recipe. I substituted flaxmeal and a dash of sesame oil for the sesame seeds and it is yummy!

Wonderful stuff, Only I think I added a bit too much chili peppers cause man, mine are pretty spicey. I ran outta silk trying to calm the heat HAHA. Great stuff, can't wait to try some more.

This recipe works alright with just powders if you don't have the fresh peppers or anything else. Although, fresh is better! These patties remind me of a tofu burger I ALWAYS have when I go to this organic restaurant nearby. Fantastic! -Bree

A great recipe. I suggest ratcheting up the spices for a little more flavor and adding a little more oatmeal for a more congealed patty.
