Super Easy BBQ TempehIngredients (use vegan versions): 3 parts ketchup (about 3/4 cup for 1/2 block tempeh)
1 part of your favorite mustard (about 1 1/2 tablespoon for 1/2 block tempeh)
garlic to taste (about 1/2 teaspoon per half block tempeh
jalapeņos to taste (about 1 per half block of tempeh)
dark brown sugar, about 1 tablespoon per 1/2 block tempeh
pure maple syrup, about 2 tablespoon per 1/2 block tempeh
tempeh (I use LightLife organic)
soy vegan cheese (optional)
pitas (optional)
red onion (about 1 tablespoon per 1/2 block tempeh)
Directions:WARNING TO PICKY COOKS: This is a recipe where you get to toss everything in with approximate measurements a see what happens!
Sauce: mince onion, jalapeņos, and garlic (you can use the minced that comes in a jar!). Mix with ketchup, mustard, vegan brown sugar and vegan maple syrup.
Slice tempeh about 1/4 (or slimmer) thick, so you have long slim slices. DO NOT PREHEAT PAN. Put half BBQ sauce mixture on bottom of shallow, no-stick-coat pan. Place tempeh one piece thick over sauce in pan, and top with remainder of sauce.
Cook at low heat! until sauce bubbles, and then turn every few minutes, uncovered, until it caramelizes (about 8-10 minutes).
I eat this in a pita with soy cheese, but it would be yummy in any other BBQ related recipe, or even with tofu or garbanzos.
Great for inexperienced/lazy/busy cooks!
This is really easy to make in large quantities!
Serves: as many as you want
Preparation time: 15 min
Sounds fabulous. I'm going to try your sauce recipe with smoked tofu and see how it goes.
