Amazing Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    1/2 cup sugar
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    2/3 cup canola oil
1/4 cup applesauce (or 1 egg substitute)
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    2 cups flour
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
vegan semi-sweet chocolate chips at your discretion
*nuts of your choice(or exclude) to taste

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375.

Mix first 5 ingredients together. Mix flour, salt & baking soda in separate bowl, then add to the first bowl. Add your chocolate chips/nuts to this mixture. Mix.

Drop on un-greased cookie sheets. Bake in the oven for about 8-10 minutes.

I have had nothing but great comments about these cookies!

Serves: 2dzn if shaped small

Preparation time: 15 mins

These cookies really are amazing! Using canola oil(good fat) instead of butter (not so good fat) they are a healthier alternative to satisfy your sweet tooth.I oonly used 1/2 cup raw sugar, and they are plenty sweet enough. I used 1/2 cup mini choc chips, and added 1/2 cup shredded coconut. Yummy!!  This is my new fave. My very particular 8 year old even loved them!!

I also halved the amount of sugar (1/4 cup regular + 1/4 cup brown) and they were plenty sweet...If I ever make these again I will put in WAY less oil... the batter was absolutely swimming with grease (eww)... The end result was pretty tasty though... K^2

I've never had a problem making them.  Sometimes you might need to add more flour. Everyone who has made them via vegancooking (on livejournal) loves them!!  good luck!

i can't ever follow directions exactly: I used flax & water as egg replacer, and I added 1/4 C cocoa powder, and 1/4 C protein powder.  I don't know what everyone is talking about saying they're too sweet.  I think I added extra sugar cause it was so bland (maybe that had something to do w/the extra dry stuff I added?)  I also added a little bit of soymilk.  I don't know if it was cause of the protein powder or what, but they did not get any shorter while they were in the oven.  They stayed exactly the same size.  They tasted like chocolate chip brownies.  They were so good.  I have this recipe on my fridge now.  I will use it often, I am sure.  Smiley

Followed the recipe exactly and they turned out perfect. Solid outside, soft gushy inside. I used Tropical Source chocolate vegan chips. Everyone in my house (including non-vegetarians) loved them.

I used egg replacer and they came out terrific! Two dozen cookies gone in less than 2 days! They were a strange consistency-I was concerned at first but I popped them in the oven and they were sooo good.

I made these cookies this past weekend and they were a hit!  The cookies were fanastic, and the uncooked dough was really delicious too!  Grin

I didn't follow this recipe exactly, I added powdered sugar instead of any other kind of sugar. I also added peanut-butter because I didn't have any vegan chocolate chips or nuts. I loved these so much, they were delicious! Grin

Generally okay...
I cooked mine for 13 minutes because they were soft to the touch at the recommended time, but once they'd cooled down they hardened a fair amount.  It made them taste a bit stale even though they were fresh Sad
I think using margarine adds a lot of flavor because they tasted a bit bland, but yes it's less healthy.  I had to add about 2 tablespoons of soymilk to make the dough stick better.  I think it needs a little something else.  Sugar is sweet, but it doesn't make the cookies rich like I expect good cookies to be.

First, I must say that these were just OKay.  Because I read all the reviews saying they were so awesome, I say this comparatively.  Otherwise, if I had read no review I may also praise them highly.  The thing I noticed right away was the oil, it was a lot so I tasted and smelled it first.  Im going to try it again with walnut oil, I didn't right away because I did not want to waste any but maybe this will make the aroma when I go and bite them much more desirable -=) Any other suggestions??

Okay I have actually experimented with this recipe a bit , I'll go to the store and get more chocolate chips, I'll try to remember what I did, I got them to end up like Matt's Chocolate Chips cookies, real similar, I reduced the sugar 75% and I used 3 different flours...anyway I'll try and remember exactly and post the exact changes in the recipe that I found I liked.

The sweetness  as per the recipe is just right.  It takes like baking soda a lot.  Any remedies?

This cookie recipe is awesome, instead of applesauce, I used cranberry puree. The tartness of the cranberries really enhanced the taste of the chocolate. I also used walnuts which went well with the other flavors. I gave some cookies to my non vegan friends and they couldn't believe they were eating vegan cookies.  Thanks!

Smiley very decent. i used egg replacer. the raw dough was a bit crumbly, but the cookies come out good. they don't spread out much. i undercooked them to obtain a slightly softer, chewy cookie.

I didn't exactly follow the recipe.  I used wheat flour, as that was all I had.  I used the one ener-g egg replacer instead of applesauce.  Other than that I followed it and my dough wasn't doughy.  It was like I just mixed flour and sugar together with a little oil.  Then I tasted it and it tasted like oil.  Then I waited to see how they came out after I put them in the over, but I think my oven sucks or I don't know how to use it, anyway, the bottoms were burnt.  I had to use soymilk to get the dough to stick together.  I think if I tried this recipe again, I would use margarine instead of or as part of the oil and definitely use white flour.  I also think I might use more sugar, they weren't bland, but if I'm gonna make choc chip cookies I want them to be so good I can't stop eating them.  The main thing was that the dough didn't stick together and it tasted like oil.

Alright, So I followed the recepie the first time, but it was too oily, which is usually a problem I have with Chocolate chip cookies.

So I tried it again creaming the sugars with 1/4 cup of soy margarine. then added 1/4 cup of oil. They tured out fluffy and yummy.

Of course to half of my recepie I added hot sauce, spicy mustard and onion powder to make a completely disgusting spicy cookie for my english presentation on beauty. I think some people will be... suprised. iickkk.

If you didn't follow the recipe why are you complaining? It's probably something you did wrong. I've never had objections to these cookies. Everyone loves them. I make large amounts of them very often for friends and family.. Most who don't know they are even vegan.

These cookies are really what they say, amazing. They are phenomenal. All of my roommates and coworkers loved them. I added a little extra vanilla extract and cocoa powder to the mix to give them some extra kick. The cocoa made the whole cookie taste all chocolatey!

Mmmm.  Smiley

SO good. Usually my chocolate chip cookies come out to greasy, and i was skeptical at first but theyre perfect when there done. I think the applesauce makes the difference between this and other cookies?
