Monas Chewy Good n Gooey Pecan Brownies

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    2 cups unbleached flour
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup brown sugar
    1/2 cup vegan cocoa
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1 cup chocolate soy milk
    3/4 cup vegetable oil
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped pecans, more or less! (optional)

Directions:

1. Pre-heat oven to 350, and pop in your pecans (or other nuts) before you chop em. Theyll get roasty and smell good, and be better for the brownies.

2. Mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, salt in one bowl.

3. Add milk, oil, vanilla extract.

4. Chop up nuts (food processor) and stir them in as well. Mix it all up well! Youll get a consistency that's suspiciously like frosting. But that's good!

5. Grease and flour (or cocoa) a 9X13 inch pan. Pour your mix in there.

6. Bake for 25-30 mins. Theyre done when the top is kind of firm.

7. You should really let em cool for 10-20 mins before cutting into them because they're SO gooey. But if you like em like that, dig in right away!

Serves: Makes 16 fat brownies

Preparation time: 10-15 mins

These brownies ROCK!! Theyre better than any other brownies I've ever had! They were sooo gooey that I kept putting them back in the oven for about 15-20 minutes longer than it says to, and they were still very good and gooey!  Just keep an eye on em! You should absolutely make these yummy brownies! THANX Mona! Love & Light

These were super fantastic.  Especially if you like dense, chewy brownies rather than cake-like brownies.  Interestingly, 25 minutes in the oven was enough.  Anymore and they would have burned.

I followed this as you said and the dough was really stiff...like you couldnt even stir it.  Dunno how they taste yet (in the oven)- I added a bit more soy milk...I'll let you know

Fantastic!  I tried making brownies with a traditional recipe and egg replacer and they were inedible.  I thought brownies were a lost cause.  Three cheers for a great brownie recipe!

I made these a second time and omitted the nuts but added vegan chocolate chips.  I didn't have any chocolate soymilk so I used plain.  The chips made up for the chocolate soymilk.  They were fantatsic.  I love this recipe and non-vegans can't tell the difference.

Wow. These are super delicious brownies. I don't know how anyone could not love these brownies. Seriously, they are wonderful.

These were delicious! I used whole wheat flour, sucanat for the sugars, and added a half cup of chocolate chips. It didn't say how much salt to add so I used a half teaspoon. Everyone loved them and asked for the recipe. Will definitely be making these again and again.

I added some instant (decaf) coffee granules to the batter, and these were very rich and delish.  The boys all ate them up after a cookout with meat and potatoes.  I will definitely make these on a regular basis.

im confused. while the coffee sounds like a good idea, why decaf? decaf granules? wow. i can't imagine how that would taste good in the least. but whatever floats yer boat.

I tried these out on my almost vegan family (by that I mean that I am vegan, they don't eat meat and we are working on eliminating the dairy and sugar) and they LOVED LOVED LOVED them.  I varied a few things:  took out pecans (my sons have peanut allergies in their classroom and cannot bring ANY nuts to school); used raw cane sugar in place of the brown sugar; used regular soy milk instead of chocolate and added about 3/4 cup of carob chips.  Oh my goodness, they were simply wonderful!!!!  Best I have ever had.  My husband says they are his absolute favourite and everyone cannot wait for me to make them again.  They last about 2 days!  Such an easy recipe - thank you so much Mona!

Someone posted a comment about using egg replacer and having the brownies come out inedible.
I have had the same experience. NEVER use egg replacer powder in brownies (from my experience). They come out like greasy brownie rocks. As in so hard you can use them as a doorstop. If you must use anything to replace the eggs, use mashed silken tofu (1/4 cup per egg)

Making these brownies I had to keep checking the recipe, I couldn't believe that there wasn't any egg replacer, which has always worked great for me! But It was fabulous. I added some chocolate chips and coconut which made it even better!
I brought it to my Mah Jongg group and everyone loves it not knowing that it was vegan. The recipe isn't just great, it grows on you! Shocked Wow!

i made these and they did not turn out well at all. The outside parts were fluffy and cake like (i had been hoping for something dense), but the middle part tasted funny. I used chocolate chips instead of pecans. Any tips for next time?

i just baked these, but i used wholemeal flour, and only 1 cup of sugar, instead of two. they still turned out good and delicious, but not as "gooey" as everyone has been saying. any tips on how to make it more moist and gooey? is it because i used less sugar than was called for? i didn't want to use so much sugar cus welll.. too much sugar aint healthy.

These were great!  I swirled tofutti cream cheese mixed with sugar on the top.  I baked for about 35 minutes on 350 and hoped they were done, but then half an hour later I decided they weren't and baked on 325 (as it heated up) for another 25 minutes or so

Having been of the mentality that eating no brownie is better than eating a bad brownie, I had given up on ever eating one again. However, this weekend, I was afflicted with a chocolate craving so intense that I armed myself with cocoa and vowed to make every recipe on this site looking for a doable brownie. Good thing these were pretty close to the top of the list, because I stopped here. These are GREAT! (And as an added bonus, the batter is pretty tasty too.) I halved the sugar and added a pinch of salt and cinnamon and they came out spectacular. Better than I remember brownies tasting, actually...

These brownies were very good. We made then exactly as the recipe is. Next time we are adding chocolate chips and walnuts. Thanks for sharing!

Adding dried cherries and vegan chocolate chips would make a delicious Black Forest version of these that I can't wait to try. Cheesy

These were tasty, but not so chewy or gooey. I followed the recipe exactly, and they turned out quite crumbly. Great flavor and texture, but they wouldn't quite stay together like you want a brownie to. I took them to a barbecue, though, and nobody complained. Smiley

these are awesome! i used walnuts cos i didn't have any pecans but apart from that i followed the recipe exactly and they were great, although i did have to cook them a bit longer. this is the best, and by far the simplest vegan brownie recipe i've found so far.

great recipe  Smiley, made these on Sunday and my family loved them. I used macadamia and plain soy milk, but they still tasted wonderfully. Totally recommend them for all you brownie lovers out there! Cheesy
