Yummy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

1 cup( 250 ml) softened margarine
    3/4(200 ml) cup white sugar
3/4 (200 ml) cup brown sugar
    1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla
egg substitute equal to 2 eggs
    2 1/4 (550 ml) cups flour
1 teaspoon (5 ml) baking soda
    1/2(2.5 ml) teaspoon salt
2 cups (500 ml) chocolate chips

Directions:

Cream together margarine, sugars, vanilla and egg replacer, now add the flour, salt, baking soda and mix well.  Mix in the chocolate chips and spoon onto an ungreased cookie and bake at 350 F/175C for 15 minutes or until browned.

Serves: about 2 dozen cookies

Thanks so much for these fabulous cookies! Next time I will only bake them just for the 15 minutes as the recipe states. They seemed like they weren't done so I put them back in for 3 more minutes and they got really hard. I used 1/2 vegetable shortening and 1/2 Willow Run stick margarine.  My husband even liked them! Thanks again...!!!

What yummy cookies!  I followed the directions more or less (except substituting 2 tsp baking powder for the soda because we had no soda in the house), and the cookies came out great! Smiley

Also, I didn't need to add any more time to the baking -- after 15 minutes the edges were a nice golden brown.

I thought these were much much better than both the 'happy vegan chocolate chip cookies' and the 'chocolate chip cookies like they should be,' both which are highly rated here on vegweb. I've made both of those a couple times and really wasn't happy with either and never understood all the rave reviews. But anyway, these are really good. If I'm correct, the recipe is almost identical to the original toll house recipe, just veganized. They only took about 9 minutes to bake (the first time I tried these I checked after 15 minutes and they were completely burnt and hard as rocks... I used my toaster oven both times, but usually the toaster oven works just like my regular oven so I don't think I can blame the appliance). They were also pretty flat, so next time maybe I'll add some baking powder or something, in addition to the baking soda. Despite the flatness, the texture and taste were still much better than the other recipes I've tried.

I followed the directions. I used applesauce as my egg replacer. These were really greasy and flat. Next time I'm going to sub applesauce for at least half the margarine. And cut the wet ingredients back. Applesauce should stop the greasyness, and more dry ingredients should make it fluffier. They are too sweet for me though, so I'll cut down on the sugar too. Will let you know how they turn out.

These are very good!  I replaced the brown sugar with ground flaxseed and they came out super tasty!

oh, I also had to add a little bit of soymilk when i had it all mixed together because the mix was dry, but even with that, after they cooked, they seemed fine.

These were great I cut the recipe in half (but not the vanilla)  and used apple sauce in place of the butter, (i couldn't stomach the fact that all that butter was going to be put in my body)  they turned out really fat and puffy and sort of cake like, but they were soooo good.  It has just the right amount of vanilla and sugar, I loved it & I think this will be the recipe that I use all the time for Choc Chip cookies, Thanx.

i made these for world vegetarian day and they were the biggest hit of all of the dishes!! they were gone within 3 hours. people are still talking about them today "i just couldnt believe it, they tasted like REAL chocolate chip cookies." "but what did they taste like?" "chocolate chip cookies!"  haha.  people who missed out on it didnt believe it, and the people who did try them didnt believe it.  these were so good.  i am definitely gonna be making them again for me.  and one of my friends who missed them yesterday, requested them for her birthday.

These are my second favorite chocolate chip cookies, the first being the ones from VwaV. I think the trick to them not spreading to much is using cold butter and creaming with the sugar. These were amazing!!! I baked for 12 mins and they were slightly browned on the edges. Next time I will follow the instructions and cook for the full 15 mins. I also halved the recipe using 1/4 cp of each sugar.

Thanks for the recipe!

These are suuuuuper good.  Probably my favourite chocolate chip cookie recipe.  Halved the sugar and replaced half of the margarine with applesauce, and they were still delicious.

I didn't modify this recipe at all and the cookies heavenly!  They were the best batch of chocolate chip cookies I've made in a long time.  Next time I make this, I'll probably use half whole wheat, use less butter and sugar.  But a make again, for sure!

These tasted quite good, but they came out extremely thin and flat.  I used half a cup of applesauce as the egg replacement, maybe that was why....
