Chocolate Glaze

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    2 Tablespoons cocoa
    1 Tablespoon + 2 teaspoons water
    1 Tablespoon canola oil
    1 Tablespoon corn syrup
    1 cup powdered sugar

Directions:

Warm all ingredients except the powdered sugar in a small pot on the stove under low heat until thoroughly mixed and warm.  Remove from the heat and add powdered sugar.  If you need to thicken it a bit more, add a little more powdered sugar.  Pour glaze on cake or other dessert while still warm.

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Thanks, guys! The cake is from the Super Moist Chocolate Cake recipe on this website (very delicious!) and I replaced the water in the recipe with 3/4 cup of coffee and 1/4 cup hazelnut liqueur. When the cake was coooled, I doubled this glaze recipe (using coffee instead of water) and poured it over top. Once the glaze had cooled and hardened, I sifted cocoa powder over top. I did a google image search for heart stencils, and I found this really cute one on a website that sold supplies for decorating fingernails! haha. I enlarged it in a photo editing program, printed it out, cut it out, placed it on the cake and sifted powdered sugar over top. Ta-da!
I was worried that the design would melt into the glaze over night, but the glaze was sufficiently hardened that the design held up very well. (Also, if anyone is wondering what I think of the glaze - it's great! Very rich and fudgy, I love it).

Thanks Blondie! Oh, one caveat if you do decorate a cake in this way - I wouldn't reccomend putting a candle on it and blowing it out Smiley

Hahaha, good point. I think I might use this idea for my boyfriend's upcoming graduation (I am not very good writing in icing, so this may make a prettier cake). :-)

I just have to say how lovely Katia's cake picture is.  Such talented, creative chefs we have on vegweb Smiley

This glaze is very tasty, too - made it many times.

I used to not like cake because it was always so dry.  It's wonderful cakes like this one that are gradually showing me the error of my ways!!  Seriously, it is tasty.  And supermoist (the name doesn't lie), even after a few days.  It's also so easy to make.  I will definitely be making this one again and maybe try some type of icing or decoration.  Thanks for posting this Smiley

Wonderful glaze!  I used this on a 9" cake from a springform pan.  I had to double the recipe to cover the top of the cake.  One recipe doesn't go very far.  I don't use corn syrup so I used maple syrup instead and added a Tbs of brown sugar.  Worked great!

Yum.  I used this to frost the Baked Doughnut Nuggets and it reminded me of the Krispy Kreme chocolate glaze, though I made it thicker than that (cuz I can  Smiley).

This is good even though it doesnt yeild much, I would suggest doubling it to have enough. I put this on top of a cinnamon roll recipe from this site and it turned out perfect. Two thumbs up.
