Awesome Chocolate Cookies

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    3/4 cup margarine
    1 cup unrefined sugar
    1 egg equivalent
    1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 cup whole wheat pastry flour
    1/3 - 1/2 cup cocoa
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1 cup any kind of vegan chips (peanut butter are awesome)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350.  Mix margarine and vegan sugar until creamy.  Add egg and vanilla.  In a separate bowl, blend flour, cocoa, soda, and baking powder.  Add dry mixture to wet mixture and mix until everything is well blended.  Stir in the chips.  Form balls and smash them down a little bit on an ungreased cookie sheet.  Bake for 7-9 minutes until the tops are no longer gooey.

Its really important to use the purest, most unprocessed, organic ingredients you can find.  It makes a huge difference in the way the cookies taste and the way they make you feel.

These cookies are truly scrumdiddl

These cookies are really good!  The recipe fails to say what to do w/the salt, I added mine in with the dry ingredients.  Very good cookies! YUM!  PS let the cookies cool a bit before taking them off the sheet!

haha, its great because i made these cookies yesterday and then today they're recipe of the day.  that's kind of creepy, actually o_o  anyway, OH MY GOD.  these are the greatest cookies ever.  i made them with chocolate chips because chocolate chocolate chip cookies sounded really good at the moment and its quite hard to stop eating them ^^; bravo *grin*

One word...YUMMY...a few more words...thank you for this recipe!!!

These were fabulous!  I fed them to many non-vegan friends who were surprised I could eat them because they couldnt possibly be vegan.  And these are college kids--were well versed in our junk food.  Smiley Awesome cookies.  and really easy to make.

I don't know what I did but these cookies turned out more like CAKE than cookie Sad I didn't think I was this incompetent, I followed the recipe.  Sad *is sad*

these are incredible cookies.  everyone who i have ever given them to loves them.  the best part is how they stay soft.  i am only commenting and voting because these cookies deserve to be 5 stars.  best vegan cookies i have ever had, anywhere.

Omigoddess! Yummm.. Being a poor college student I used 1/2 cup applesauce and 1/4 cup canola oil instead of the Vegan marg. This necessitated 1 cup more flour. I baked them for 9.5 minutes..they are fudgy, probably cakey when cool, amazing..and they pass the Practically Carnivorous Brothers Test (ages 16 and 23) and that's all that needs to be said! Peace & Love (and cookies!)

I made these for a New Years party, and they went really quickly.  There was really good food there, but everyone said these cookies and the PB ones I brought were the hits of the evening.  I used regular flour cause I didn't have whole wheat (I was at my paren'ts place), and I used choc (not PB) chips.  I'll definitely make them again.

Very, very good!  One suggestion: make your balls of dough on the small side, as these cookies spread big time.  I made them the same size I do for most cookies and they all ended up spreading together.  I also added some chopped pecans and almonds-thanks for the delicious recipe.  Deserves 5 stars, not 4.

As the name suggests, these cookies were awesome.  I only used 1/4 cup margarine and added 1/2 cup peach flavored applesauce (because that's all we had), and I used one  mashed banana for the egg.  I also used chocolate chips since we didn't have any other kinds, but I'm going to try them with peanut butter next time.

Does anyone know where to get vegan peanut butter chips?

These cookies are excellent; its a shame that I'm such a horrible person. I'd followed the recipe perfectly until I didn't remember to add the baking powder. The cookies, as result, were very crumbly.  On the bright side, there's really no need to bake the dough, seeing as its fabulous on its own. I consumed nearly half of the dough before placing the rest in the oven (where it failed because I'm incompetent).  In conclusion, this is the first good recipe I've used in a while. The cookies resembled an actual baked good rather than a vegan mess.

Mm Mm Mm so good. Really good. Make them right now! :-) We used choc chip and rolled them in coconut and put a pecan on top of each one.

These cookies made my brother, my boyfriend, and my boyfriends roomates... all university students forget that they were vegan.  Not once while eating these cookies has one single It lacks the animal joke been made.  These cookies are amazing. (It usually takes more like ten to fifteen minutes to bake them though).

These are excellent.  Moist, slightly chewy, yummy.  I did change the recipe some.  I used 1/2 cup of margarine, 1/2 reg white sugar, 1/2 sucanat, flaxseed for egg replacer, ran out of vanilla and added 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of mapleine instead, no chocolate chips, but added 1 HEAPING tablespoon of peanut butter.  Turned out wonderful! entire batch was eatten last night. Great how it is, but great recipe to experiment with.

These are really yummy! The dough is too, which is important. I used dark cocoa powder and regular chocolate chips, although I think peanut butter chips would be even better. I also used regular white flour because I was out of pastry flour. Very good!!!

These cookies rock!!  They were absolutely delicious.  The only thing I will change is that this time I used one whole banana as egg replacer, next time I will try one half.  My dough was a little bit on the wet side...but the cookies were amazing...definitely 5 stars from me.

These came out GREAT. I used vegan white chocolate chips with these and made very small cookies... I used the full amount of cocoa, and they were chocolatey, sweet, but not too much so. They're the best double-chocolate cookies I've made. This one is a keeper!

I *just* made these cookies...and WOW...they are SOOOO good!!  (and fast & easy!)

Because of allergies, I made some modifications:  I used mostly rye flour, mixed with some brown rice flour; applesauce in place of the egg; carob powder & carob chips (decreased sugar by almost 1/2 b/c of the carob's sweetness).

And although rolling the dough into balls makes a more aesthetically pleasing cookie, being a single working mum, I found that dropping them onto the baking sheet by the spoonful and flattening them slightly works just fine too.

I ended up using oil instead of margarine and walnuts/peanuts instead of chocolate chips and half whole wheat flour and white flour. These were too sweet for me and a bit dry...

I've made these cookies several times without chocolate chips (too expensive for me) and using a small banana as the egg replacer and they are amaaaazing!  One day I'll have to spend the $5.99 on some Tropical Source cc, but I can't imagine they could get much better  Wink

allisa: You don't have to splurge too much to get vegan chocolate chips! Personally, I never buy Tropical Source, because I'm a college student and they are very expensive. Just look for any chocolate chips, even non-health food store brands, that don't contain dairy. I buy delicious $1.99 chocolate chips from Target (don't know the brand offhand), and many store brands are "accidentally vegan." I also know that one type of Ghirardelli are dairy-free, and still cheaper than Tropical Source. Anyway, I LOVE these cookies, and I think the chocolate chips make them all the more delicious!!! :-)

These cookies were quite nifty. The first time I made them, I substituted olive oil w/ extra virgin olive oil for the margarine. No one else liked the results (somewhat bitter and off-tasting), but I froze them and loved them. The second time I substituted applesauce for the margarine, and a banana for the egg replacer, as well as using regular salt. (I didn't know I had any sea salt at the time. Oops..oh well.) Hence they're low-fat-always a bonus! =)
Nice and chocolatey...without being overly sweet. And extremely easy to make. Thank you for this sweet recipe!
See my photo for promising results.

Must add that they turn out well even if you totally botch the recipe, like I have.

I found out that we'd run out of marg, so used some butter; no egg substitutes, so used an actual egg; no vanilla, oh well; fed the sugar through a grinder to make it fine enough. I got lucky & snagged the last of the cocoa.

The end result was surprisingly smooth, & tasty. I can't wait to try again tomorrow with proper ingredients (hello from GMT+09). They were a tiny bit gluggy (whcih I blame on the egg) but much better than I expected.
