Divine Better Than Reeses Peanut Butter Squares

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

2 cups crispy brown rice cereal, crushed
    2 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 cups peanut butter (preferably unsweetened - this recipe doesn't need any more sugar)
    1/2 cup vegan margarine, melted
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1/2 cup vegan chocolate chips
    2 tablespoon vegan margarine

Directions:

Combine the first five ingredients well in a large mixing bowl; press mixture into a 9 X 13 pan.

In a saucepan or double boiler over low heat, melt the last two ingredients together, stirring often.

Spread chocolate mixture over peanut butter mixture and set aside for an hour or two to set (if you can resist for that long!)

These squares are very rich and _very_ addictive!  They were a frequent treat at home when I was growing up, and are one of my only childhood favourites I've been able to carry with me into veganhood.  Yum!

Nutritional information: Appallingly high in fat and calories.  Sorry about that!

Preparation time: 15 minutes

THANK YOU FOR THIS RECIPIE!  I have been looking for something like this for a long time!  Until I found this website, I was having a hard time finding any vegan recipies for junk food.  Everyones so interested in the health aspect.  I admit, the health aspect is good, but as a teenage vegan, its hard to give up the sweet stuff. (I mostly turned vegan due to morals rather than health).  The recipie was GREAT! Even my mother liked it. (She thought I'd gone back to animal products because it tasted good! :}) Thank you again!  Sarah pikachuEM@hotmail.com

This tastes wonderful.  Howe'ver, it wouldn't stay together.  We ended up eating it with a spoon.  Any suggestions?

Sorry - I should have mentioned something about this, since I've encountered soft squares too, on occasion...  You can try increasing the amount of rice krispies, so that the 2 cups (or even more, if you like) is the measurement _after_ they've been crushed.  I've also reduced the amount of margarine, with good results.  Using natural peanut butter, which is essentially just ground peanuts, may help because its typically quite stiff stuff (this is all I ever use, so I'm not sure how altering it affects things).  It also helps if you can leave them to set in the fridge or somewhere cool, and the longer, the better.  Good luck!

ooo yummm!!! thanks so much for a tasy recipe that is so easy and quick to make (though i had best save this for once in a while treat for sure)

Made these today and they were excellent.  I used a little more of the rice krispies about 1/4 cup and less margarine.  Suggestion would be to use a little less peanut butter (I used traditional not natural) for a less sticky bar.

i found that if you stick it in the freezer for a few minutes it helps to make it more solid... i know it sounds odd but i thought it worked quite well...

These are good, but i think that i needed more peanut butter! They did not hold together, but i guess that's spoons are for!

instead of margirin,,use 2 tablespoons of penut butter in the chocolate

my boyfriend wanted to bring something home for xmas last year so i told him to make these. he and his family absolutely loved them and he felt all proud that he made something good. and it made me happy to have vegan treats since sometimes it is not much fun seeing everyone eat sweets and to have none for yourself.

before i was a vegan, i made this with gramcrackers,,instead of rice crispiys,,that's how i would make it,,but im not sure if gramcrackers are vegan,,ive never looked at them?

I made this for a large group of people and everyone loved it! I to added more rice krispie and less margarine to the mix. I also used carob instead of chocolate and peanut butter instead of maragarine on the topping. I put it in freezer for about a 1/2 hour and than in fridge for 2 hours or so before I served. They cut into perfect squares! Great and simple recipe. Thanks!

Is this recipe intended to have 2 cups of vegan powdered sugar only?  Or is granulated sugar to be added as well?  Thanks.

Great recipe - thanks for sharing that with those of us who must have something sweet in order to survive.  No complaints about this recipe other than it makes a batch that is too small.  Doubling it might help me share some!

These were soooo good.  I kept them refrigerated and found that they said together fine that way.  Out of the fridge they get a little melty.

Thanks for this recipe! I've been looking for something to make for my husband and his work buddies. They're used to lots of cakes and donuts so I wanted to surprise them with something different! Awesome!

This recipe is so delicious and a huge hit with all of my friends and family (vegan and non-vegan alike). My (very) non-vega grandmother even got the recipe from me so she could serve it to her friends. My only suggestion is to use a smaller pan...I prefer an 8 by 8 or something similar. Otherwise, the bars are almost too thin. This might just be my preference because I like to seriously indulge, but I also think it helps make them easier to eat.

I was so excited to come across this recipe that I made them the day after I found it.
I thought they were good-- 4 out of 5 stars.

I made a few changes to the recipe:
1. 2.5 cups of crushed rice crispies (made the bottom denser)
2. double the amount of chocolate chips, and melt them with about 6 tablespoons of peanut butter and about 4 tablespoons of soy milk. (This made the frosting more spread-able.)
3. used a large rimmed cookie sheet (made the treats thin) and cut them into about 1/2" pieces

I was told they were a little bland compared to the actual Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, so more powdered sugar it probably necessary.

Oh my GOD!!!   Smitten Smitten Smitten Smitten

These were amazing, like little squares of chocolatey-peanut buttery heaven!  I have so missed Resse's Peanut Butter Cups and these have completely filled that void in my life.

I melted extra chocolate for the top of the bars, but otherwise, I followed the recipe.  Delish!

Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you for such a wonderful recipe.  I have a feeling I will be making these all the time!!

Great recipe I also had to double the chocolate chips. I forgot to add the vanilla so I added to the melted chocolate. Very Very Good! This recipe is a keeper. I love how quick they are to make. I used a potato masher to crush the rice crispies.
