Dinosaur Eggs

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

1-1/2 cup chopped grasshoppers (chopped dates)
1-1/4 cup squashe'd bugs (peanut butter or almond butter)
1 cup rocks (chopped walnuts or pecans)
3/4 cup dry grass (toasted wheat germ)
1 cup crumbled egg shells (shaved coconut, wide shreds)
1/2 cup crushed bones (instant tofu or soy milk powder) or enough for proper
    consistency
    3-4 tablespoon swamp water (

    carob flavored soy milk)
1/4 cup bugs eggs (sesame seeds)
1 tablespoon lava (unsulphured light molasses or maple syrup)
    1 lb dirt (2 cups

    carob chips)
1/4 cup Adams Ale (hot water)

Directions:

With hands, mix together grashoppers (dates), bugs (peanut butter), rocks (nuts), dried grass (wheat germ), egg shells (coconut shreds), crushed bones (milk powder) swamp water (carob flavored soy milk), bugs eggs (sesame seeds) and lava (molasses or maple syrup).  Roll into balls.  Melt dirt (carob chips) in top of double boiler over hot water.  Using tongs, dip dinosaur eggs (candy pieces) into dirt (melted carob chips) to cover entire egg.  Arrange on wax paper and store in refrigerator or freezer.  These dinosaur eggs also taste great without any dirt (carob chip) covering.  Makes about 3 dozen eggs that look like chocolate balls.

Serves: about 3 dozen eggs

Preparation time: 1 hour

My youngest nieces would love this!  Definitely going to be making some with them before long.  Now to convert them to carob...

This sounds really cool and interesting.. I don't have kids, I'm not even around kids much, but I thought it was cute and creative. Good also to see recipes for sweets without sugar, gelatin and hydrogenated fats but natural ingredients. I may have to try these for myself one day!

I made these with a buddy of mine for our own personal vegan candy the day before Halloween and they were superb! We used chocolate instead of carob, since it was we already had and messed up the double-boiling big time. We had the heat too high and the chips thickened into a fudgey-paste instead of a liquid, so instead of dipping the balls we re-rolled them with the paste intertwined into them. Made them messier to eat, but the flavor was not in the least sacrificed. The whole batch was gone within three days (main contributor being myself).  Thumbs Up

I tried some room-temp, refrigerated, and frozen, and I have to say they taste the best left in the freezer. We also got a kick out of using the silly names for the ingredients.  Smirk Overall, this is a very fun and delicious recipe.  Smitten
