Pizza Crust

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    1 pkg. yeast
    3 cups flour
    1/3 cups lukewarm water
    1 teaspoon salt
    2/3 cup lukewarm water

Directions:

Dissolve yeast in 1/3 cup lukewarm water and let stand 10 minutes. In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, blend, then add 2/3 cup lukewarm water to make a pliable, elastic dough. Form into a ball, cover with a clean cloth, and let rise until doubled in a warm place (about 20-30 minutes).

Variations: Add 4 tsp basil for a more flavorful crust. Kneed in 4 Tbsp.  margarine for a more pastry-like crust. Vary these quantities according to your taste.

Roll out dough onto pizza stone or a flat pan; leave a lip around the edge. (Variation: Top with olive oil.) Spread sauce, add toppings of your choice. Bake at 450 degrees F for about 20 minutes, until crisp.

Sould I use bread flour with this or would plain flour work?

Bread flour would be better, but I use normal flour.  Whatever I have around the house.  I've also used wheat flour. And it tasted pretty good.

this recipe is wonderful! i make pizza * i am not kidding * about 3 times a week now.  LOTS of zucchini and peppers and broccoli and steamed cauliflower work best.  i also add alot of oregano to the flour before adding the yeast and water.  mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm tasty!

This pizza crust was GREAT!!!!!!!  I printed this recipe 3 1/2 years ago and can't believe it took me so long to actually use it.  I will definitely use this OVER and OVER and OVER.  I did add a sprinkle of sugar with the flour.
Now all I have to do is find the perfect sauce to go with it.
GREAT RECIPE!!!!

Soooo good.  I was intimidated about the idea of making a rising crust at first, but this was really easy...not a lot of kneading and rising and all that.  I made it with 3/4 cup of whole wheat flour because I ran out of white flour halfway through.  And I topped my pizza with delicious mushrooms and this beautiful purple cauliflower from my local co-op.  Deee-lish.

Spiffy recipe! I used bread flour, and added some herbs and a tablespoon of oil to my dough. It was quite easy to handle, though I needed another 1/3 cup water to make it stick together. It's a nice stretchy dough, so it's good for a nice thick, soft pizza crust - not a crispy base, as it's a bit hard to roll it out that thin (at least it was for me). Topped with roasted butternut, tomato bits, sauteed onion, fresh corn from my garden, some beans and some uncheese... nom nom nom!!

This turned out really well! I made a Mexican style pizza with our few remaining food items...I cooked some black beans, made a cheezy sauce + taco sauce, and added some taco filling to the top. It would have been superb with some appropriate veggies! I liked the thickness and firmness. Mine didn't brown for some reason..but that didn't matter. I used whole wheat pastry flour, and added just a tiny bit more water.

Wish I had this recipe two days ago! Instead I used the bread stick recipe (with half whole wheat flour) and it made a tasty pizza crust--and so easy!    http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=24199.0

good recipe.  I used whole wheat bread flour, garlic, and an Italian seasoning blend. wipsh I had basil, that would have been wonderful.  Topped my pizza with seasoned tomato sauce w/ TVP, sliced celery, carrots, zucchini, and red pepper.  excellent.

This turned out really well!  Thumbs Up

I love a good thick pizza with huge crust and this dough was perfect for it. I did have to add some extra water since I used bread flour.

I used tomato paste with italian herbs and nut. yeast as my base and topped it with mozzarella cheeze, sliced tomatoes and bell peppers. It was delicious!

This was a reallly great pizza dough!  I did have to add 1/3 cup more water.  Used herbs in the crust and 1/2 whole wheat flour.  YUMMY!  I like that it seems to be a very versatile crust...  This time I used a really big pizza pan and was craving a thin crispy crust!  It was perfect.  But from the pics and reviews...  It looks like it makes mean fluffy pizza too!  Oh... and some of the toppings I used.... sundried tomatoes, regular tomatoes, bell peppers, carmelized red and white onions and mushrooms...  OMG.  Heaven. +1 to what everbody else has already said about this, including the need for more water.  so easy, no kneading(!), super quick, & great texture.  i stretched this out to the edges of a pizza stone and still had a thick fluffy crust.

I have never tried making homemade pizza dough before, but this recipe looks nice and easy Smiley  A quick question though: about what diameter is the resulting pizza? I am feeding four adults, and wasn't sure how many pizzas I would be needing to make with this recipe.

To answer my own question, one pizza of average thickness will feed around 3 adults. The crust was quite easy to make and tasty. Smiley
