Preparation time: quick

wow, thank you so much, i haven't tried this recipe, but i will, i have been looking for a vegan frybread recipe, but all those i have found use milk.  last week, i used tofu puree instead of milk, and it just came out all tough and stuff.  i was going to try to make another recipe with powdered soymilk, but i never did, i will try this recipe, and definately put comments here, or maybe add one of my own recipes.  for more information on native american recipess, visit  http://indy4.fdl.cc.mn.us/~isk/food/recipes.html

Simple is good.  That was very easy and very very yummy!  I used whole wheat flour, fried it in sesame oil, and then rolled the finishe'd vegan bread in sugar.  It was a little like elephant ears, except a lot more filling, and vegan of course.  I also didn't measure anything, just eyeballed it, and it worked out great.  It was so fast, and you only dirty 2 dishes, so for a lazy boy like me that was perfect.  And if I couldnt botch it, you *know* its easy.  The ingredients are also realy cheap.  :-)  This is my new favorite recipe.  Thank you for posting it!

I just made fry bread with a bit of rice milk and it is really good. For simplicity, all you really need is self rising flour(or any flour other than soy + baking powder)and just add water to make a dough. Nothing measured and no kneading dough(known as rez style). Fry in canola oil for a lighter taste(when I use vegetable shortening it is heavier and not as healthy). Top with cinnamon and sugar for breakfast, salad for lunch, and bean, mushroom, or soy taco filling for dinner

Omg, this was awesome!
I've never made fry bread before, I wasn't even sure it would work, but it was soooo good.

You can make dinner.
I put beans, tomatoes, and lettuce on it.

YUM YUM YUM!!!!
I made these on a whim. Totally bad for you but soooo good! I ate half with powdered sugar (mmm funnel cake like) and half with salsa!! OOoo soooooo good! I think this is my new favorite treat! The picture doesn't do it justice.

I used this version of the recipe:
2 cups Flour (half WW)
1 tsp. Salt
3 tsp. Baking Powder
1 cup Water  (+ kneaded more flour to make them less sticky to handle
I patted them and then streched them very thin cuz they really puff.

I am really surprised how easy this is to prepare and how little oil this bread absorbs. What I recommend is to cut back the baking powder just a pinch because you might be able to taste it, as well as frying it over a medium meat for an extra crispy exterior.  I love this topped with cinnamon and sugar, and I've made this recipe 3x already!

Hmm, yummy. I put in a little bit more sugar and fried it in a pan instead of deep frying it. I put way too much water in the dough at first so had to add more flour, so for anyone making this: go slow with the water!
Because of my impatience with the water the dough was sticky and I couldn't stretch it, so I just dropped clumps in the pan and pressed them down. Very yummy but not something I recommend for the health conscious  Wink

Good with maple syrup and powdered sugar.  Cheesy

I just tried my very first piece of fry bread and not only was it tasty, it was so simple to prepare with little clean up! I topped mine with cinnamon, sugar, and a few slices of apple; so good. Thank you for this recipe!

Just made these tonight, was craving something sweet. We added brown sugar to the batter, fried, then sprinkled more brown sugar and cinnamon once they were done. These aren't the healthiest, but boy are they good. Thanks for the quick and tasty recipe. My kids love these.

A bunch of reviewers say they've had this with sugar on top and that reminds me- I've been craving funnel cake soo badly! Cheesy  Could this be used to make funnel cake, like would I have to add more liquid or something? Thanks!

Frybread is the staple food in Native American culture and we eat it with EVERYTHING, lol. The frybread I make has a similar recipe to this, although I don't use measurements and stuff for frybread, I just make it, lol. Add a little more sugar for a little sweeter frybread (perfect if you wanna put powdered sugar on it), and turn it in the skillet while it's cooking.

Let the dough sit for 10-20 minutes while you clean up from mixing, etc. Get a glass of water, sit down, get comfy, lol. It's definitely worth it because the dough will get fluffier, and frybread is supposed to be fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside.

Also, don't just stretch the dough! You won't get the air pockets that help make it fluffier. Form it into a ball in your hand, pat the ball a couple times, then toss it quickly from hand to hand until it's thin and flat. This is a lot easier after you let the dough sit, because it won't stick to your hands and it'll get perfect.  Smiley  If you get a perfect circle when you do this, poke a hole in the middle of it before you fry it. Not only will it help the cooking, but some tribes always put a hole in the center to symbolize the imperfections that everyone has, because no one is perfect except the Creator.

Happy frybread-ing! haha.   Thumbs Up

.... If I didn't run out of oil I would have made these THREE times today...

I never knew such delicious simplicity existed... Oh man..
Sooo the first time I ate it with honey and cinnamon.. The second time I sliced a banana, put in some syrup, ground flax and cinnamon and mashed lightly to make a chunky banana sauce...
SOOOOOOO GOOOOD.. I kind of love this stuff. I'm even going to make some to serve to my family for thanksgiving.
