I simplified the recipe even more by not bothering with the sugar and I only had plain soy milk. It was the recommendation in the comments that solved my vegan french toast problem - DO NOT LET THE BREAD SOAK in the mixture! Also give it time to cook and firm up - it's not as fast as nonvegan french toast. I like to top my french toast with chopped walnuts, sliced bananas, and pumpkin butter. MMmmmm.....

This recipe is awesome!!! I'm all for little ingredients. I did add a tsp of almond extract. My friend couldn't believe I used no eggs....YAY!!!

I made this for breakfast this morning. It was lovely! All of my kids enjoyed it too. It kind of reminded me of the nice sqishy bottom of yorkshire/batter puddings. I'l definitly be making this again...Yum!

Yummy! It was so easy. I hadn't made French Toast in years (after being vegan) and it totally hit the spot this morning. My boyfriend even said their good (and he's not vegan). All the ingredients are easy to find in the kitchen

MUY EXCELLENTE!!!!!!! FABULOUS
I didnt have regular soymilk and used that very vanilla silk soymilk and it tasted SO good! My bf complained about it being soggy so he toasted it afterwards but i like my french toast soggy. Poured a little Maple Agave syrup from Trader Joes on it and I even had to make another batch for us. And Yes using the Texas Toast is probably the best bread out there for this recipe.

This was really good, best vegan french toast I've ever made
I used vanilla almond milk and didn't add sugar. Came out great!

I never had french toast before, vegan or not....but I liked it. I used eczekial cinnamon raisin bread. My bf said it had the "eggy taste" w/out the eggs of course. I will def. make again, quick and easy.

Make this for breakfast this morning, I was in a rush and added 3 Tbsp of sugar
These were awesome!!! My 9 yr old gobbled them down. Mine were a little soggy in the middle, I put them in a warm oven for less than 5 minutes and they were perfect. The flavoring is very tasty
. Thanks for a simple, tasty, and easy recipe. I've passed it along to my non-vegan friends.

oh holy cow! these were SOOO good. and it makes A LOT!
The only thing I altered was that I mashed up a banana and threw that into the batter too, for an interesting banana flavor.
MMM!
I dipped Ezekiel Sprouted Grains Cinnamon Raisin bread in this batter, and they came out fantastic! I ate them with some pure maple syrup and some crushed up blackberries with a bit of sugar added.
My omni boyfriend gobbled them up in seconds.

I have been craving French toast since finally swearing off eggs a few months ago. This was just what I wanted! I'm not a big fan of measuring, so I can't accurately say how much of anything I used but instead of soy milk I used plain rice milk (staying away from too much soy!) and added some vanilla extract. It turned out great, but I will probably throw it in the toaster oven for a few minutes next time - it was a tad soggy in the middle, but I like it that way:) My skeptical egg-eating friend had a bite - and then wished he'd agreed to let me make him some!

I just tried it. It was pretty yummy, though I only 'eyeballed' the quantities, and halved the recipe (as it was just for me). I think I put in too much flour, as the toasts were a bit like bread coated in crepe. I used a day old wholemeal, grain loaf, and that worked - they neither fell abort nor stuck to the pan (much). Definitely cooking low and slow is the way to go. Next time I'll put in more cinnamon, soak the bread a bit more in thinner batter, and get people to help me eat it - it made lots!!
