Easy Baking Powder Biscuits

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    2 cups flour
    3 teaspoons baking powder
    1 teaspoon salt
    4 tablespoons margarine
    3/4 cup water

Directions:

Mix together dry ingredients. Add vegan margarine and water, mix with fork. When dough forms a ball knead it for at least one minute. Roll out to 1/2 thick. Cut with the edge of a cup or glass.

Bake at 450 degrees for 12-15 minutes.

Serves: one dozen

Preparation time: 30 - 45 min

I found these to be a little more salty than I would've liked.

I cut the salt to 1/2 tsp and added parsley and some garlic powder. The dough was sooo yummy, but the biscuits didnt really rise. I ended up with about 14-15 biscuits instead of 12 so maybe I just rolled the dough too thin?? Anyway served with regular white gravy they were ok, actually pretty good (I'm munching on them now) - for very easy and simple biscuits! good for a quick craving but I will try another recipe when cooking for company.

Wow!  As the name states, these really are easy!  In almost no time I had warm yummy biscuits coming out of the oven.  As for the previous comments, I did not find these too salty, and my biscuits rose nicely.  This will most certainly become a regular recipe for me!

The biscuits were very easy to make, but were a bit bland. I added olive oil instead of margarine and I also added basil, oregano, pepper and garlic to give them a bit of flavor.

this recipe worked well! it happens to be exactly what i was looking for - the least amount of basic ingredients... perfect for when i'm broke because these ingredients are usually what's left in the pantry after everything else is used up. it makes a great, quick bread to go along with the last of veggies and beans for the week. they rose just fine. i did substitute some garlic and onion powder in place of some of the salt - can't really taste it, just not very salty. this recipe was a great base for me to improvise on. i used all organic ingredients, and substitutions were: used whole wheat flour, a pinch of sun dried sea salt rather than a whole teaspoon, cut the earth balance to 2 tbs, added approx. 3 tsp of ground flax seeds, a pinch of cinnamon, and about 1/2 tsp of sucanat.. only needed to be in for 10 minutes. they were delightful & my 15 month old twins kept asking for more (: we ate them with a little earth balance & fresh mango preserves. YUM!! will definitely be keeping this recipe. Smiley
i didn't roll them out and use a glass to cutout. i just put heaping tablespoonfuls into a glass 8x8. if i were having company, i'd probably put the extra effort to make 'em look pretty.  its not necessary though. anyway, the texture was nice and soft, not too crumbly inside and just enough bite on the outside. not overly crispy nor soggy.. just perfect! \/ peace

These were great!  I subbed soy milk with a splash of vinegar for the water to make them buttermilk biscuits.  Easy and tasty.  I didn't add salt and they were plenty salty from the earth balance and baking powder.  My 2 year loved rolling these out.

These were OK for me. Very easy to make ... just kind of plain. I think next time I'll definitely use soy milk instead of water and I'll stick to white flour (I used wheat). I'll double the recipe too. For some reason, I only got 8 biscuits out of these, and that was even a stretch. Maybe I make mine extra big?

Otherwise, it's a good "base" biscuit.

These are extremely simple to make and they are delicious.  I added fennel seeds to make them a little more flavorful.

mine came out hard, but i think i did something wrong! maybe not enough liquid?  and i did sub soymilk and earthbalance shortening instead of the butter.  the good news is i'm made them for "biscuits and gravy" so they'll soften up  Smiley

thanks for the recipe!

*mmmm*! I've never made biscuits before, but I was looking for something quick that I could make with what I had left in the pantry. I made a few changes: Used soymilk instead of water, added a pinch of sugar, cut back on the salt, and added rosemary, thyme, and black pepper. They turned out great! The romsemary and thyme REALLY did the trick. Great, basic recipe.

Does anyone know how to make homemade BISQUIK? I looked for the healthy version of it at the HFS but wasn't  succesful. I am craving some of this old ''IMPOSSIBLE APPLE PIE" I used to make a long time ago, plus a thousand other good biscuits, rolls and cakes recipes made with bisquik. I know theres gotta be a good healthy version around somewhere!!!!!
