I'm also thinking about making her a veggie soup?  Like maybe a brothy minestrone?  What do you think?

You could make Quintess' "chicken" noodle soup!

Hard candies and lollipops are good for nausea, as well as crackers... also 'What to Expect when you're Expecting' is a great resource for first-time moms...

Pregnant people always scoff at my suggestion then go on with horrible morning sickness without even trying it because apparently my opinion as someone who has never been pregnant, but has had chronic nausea for about 16 years is completely invalid.

BUT! I love my reliefband. It's like an acupressure bracelet but it has electrodes that pulse every 3 seconds stimulating the pressure point in your wrist that relieves nausea. That thing has saved me from barfing on people in public so many times, and even helped when I was in the hospital waiting for them to diagnose my severe abdominal pain as appendicitis. It's FDA approved for use for morning sickness (and motion sickness, and sickness from chemotherapy or post-surgery). It isn't cheap, but it is so so so worth it. I've had mine for going on 6 yrs now and I adore it. www.reliefband.com

My wife is pregnant with our 2nd, and both times the morning sickness has been legendary. Here are 3 things I've learned:

1.  NOTHING FRAGRANT!!! If you are giving her soup, seal it well. The sense of smell tends to go haywire on pregnant women as evidenced by the fact that my mom still cannot abide the smell of Dawn dishwashing liquid (gives her pregnancy flashbacks!) and that my wife had to air out our house  one time when I cooked a Boca burger.

Be careful witht he smels.

2. Sparkling water. Bubbles help. Flavors do not always help.

3. Don't get offended if she's not grateful for the help. When in the worst of "the sickness", wife-o-mine became surly surly surly.

And that *tapdance flourish* is what I've got.

I tried ginger tea, the smell of it made me nauseated so it didn't help.  Ginger ale and sprite with crackers was all I could eat for about 4 weeks or so, I lost 6 lbs in my first tri-mester.

They say crackers before getting up in the morning helps, I tried it, helped a little, but would still barf up yellow bile first thing every morning when I got up.

I don't think there is a cure-all-end-all remedy, you just have to wait it out.  It sucks, it really does.  I remember throwing up a plum at work in the bathroom, I about ran over a co-worker on my way, and she was just smilling at me as I ran into the stall and made some really gross sounds.

I threw up in the parking garage walking to my car after work, a guy behind me looked at me funny and asked "are you okay".  I was like "I'm pregnat" he nodded and walked away.

Yup, it sucks.  I threw up at least two or three times in the trash can in my office.  Once after eating some yogurt...that was fun...it really was!!!!

I had HORRIBLE nausea for months 2-5, (seriously like needing IV's to rehydrate me kind..)   Sadly nothing totally helped, oddly the only food I could sometimes eat was salty pumpkin seeds, (I would eat like 1/minute the whole day,0 and lots of gingerale....Everyone kept pushing ginger-everything on me, and i was in Kauai so it was plentiful....but only fake-soda-like gingerale would do...probably because it was milder.....also I would carry around a clean wash cloth to hold over my face because everything smelled so horrible!!! I couldn't even bear to open the fridge w/out gagging.....So yeah, prayers, pumpkin seeds, and gingerale are my best bets! And if she can find something she CAN stomach, Go for it!  Leave thinking about balanced meals until later, my docs always said that as long as I was hydrated in the beginning baby was doin' alright...Oh and obviouslyNEVER take a pre-natal on an empty stomach unless you want to feel sicker than you've ever felt in your life!!!(including the morning after your 21st bday.....ya feel me?!!!!)

Vegan Friendly in New Zealand

I am pregnant, 8 months. My first trimester was terrible because I felt sick all day long.  Bundaberg Ginger Beer got me through the day.  That's what we call it in New Zealand.  It's like ginger ale but natural and spicier.  I also nibbled at rice crackers off and on throughout the day.  Your friend may not realize it, but eating actually helps with the nausea. Eating anything she feels like.   She needs to eat before she gets hungry.  Being hungry makes you feel even sicker. I would get up and eat breakfast as soon as i got out of bed, otherwise I would just feel sicker and sicker.  I also really recommend the book The Morning Sickness Companion.  Good luck all you pregnant women out there.  It's a tough job! (I'm already considering adoption for my second.)

Nibbling on fresh fruit all morning really helped my nausea - esp. grapes and strawberries (baby loves both of those things now!)

I had a Spirutein shake every day to keep my nutrition up and compensate for a funky appetite (vegan all but bee pollen)

Smoothies made from frozen bananas & strawberries or frozen applesauce were a big help - blended with soymilk and sweetener till milkshake-like (I found cold helpful)

At dinnertime, grilled eggplant was easy to eat (baby loves that now, too!)

Chocolate soymilk was good, too.

I guess everyone is different on this stuff - but that's what I found helpful.

Wow... just, wow. Had I even suggested that to my wife during either pregnancy, she would still be throwing up today.

You nailed it... it's different for everyone.

LOL!! This reminds me of when my boyfriend brought in some greens from the garden, still with some dirt on them and everything.  He was like, "here I'll make you a salad" and the greens totally smelled like a big huge garbage truck dirt bomb... I had to literally throw them outside and lay on the bathroom floor.  the thought of that STILL makes me want to vomit right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haven't been preggers for a LONG while, but remember well the constant companionship of that damn nausea... ginger tea was the only thing that helped me; & not 'tea' meaning tea leaves with ginger flavoring-- peel a bit of ginger root, slice off 2 or 3 1/8" slices, and pour boiling water over it in a coffee cup, then let it sit covered for a few minutes. Don't put anything else in it, like sugar or anything... even lemon had a bad effect, on me... but the ginger seemed to help.
