Vegan Brownies
Ingredients (use
vegan versions
):
1 cup organic sugar
1 cup organic unbleached flour
1 tablespoon ground flax seed
1/4 cup canola oil
1/3 cup water
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
love
Directions:
Mix wet ingredients, then dump in all the dry...don't over mix...
Bake at 350' for about 20-25 minutes.
They're supposed to look gooey! you can even add your favorite vegan chocolate chips, add coconut, or nuts!
These are so good and normal tasting my meat-eating family couldn’t tell the difference!!!
Serves: 12-16

Absolutely AMAZING! I added vegan chocolate chips and they were positively sinful! I used whole wheat pastry flour and added a little more water, but that was it. I am making these in the morning for a picnic and am using white. The batch I made tonight isn't going to make it through the night! Thanks!

Wow. These are surprisingly really good. I've made quite a few vegan brownie recipes..and these are some of the best. So simple! I used 1 Ener-G egg replacer instead of Flax..whole wheat pastry flour..and didn't measure accurately, but they are chocolaty, gooey, and not all cakey. I added chocolate chips, and nuts would be great! Yum!

I want to now say that these are my favorite vegan brownies! They were perfect when warm...and they are still perfect when totally cool. From my recollection..they taste exactly like my mom's very non-vegan brownies.

My wife is a vegan. I am not quite there yet. However, I do enjoy vegan cooking. She has shared with me about chocolate and cocoa. The alternative for these would be Carob. You may use either carob powder in place of cocoa powder. Or, use sweetened carob chips in place of chocolate chips.
I made some Vegan Brownies for a church fellowship lunch using the carob powder, then I added 1 cup of sweetened carob chips.
We did not have any to bring home.

this is by far the best brownie recipe from this site i used even without vanilla extract. i used whole wheat flour, applesauce subbing for oil, Stevia for sugar and rice milk for water and also added pecans. i suggest if you make the substitutions i made to add more liquid. but this is not my favorite brownie recipe and will make it more with different substitutions! thanks.

These are really really good and super easy to make. My only problem was that they stuck to my pan. I made them in a glass 8 x 8 pan. I greased the pan and they still stuck, both times that I have made them. Anyone have any ideas?
I would love to be able to cut these brownies out in a nice square to serve them, because the taste and texture is right on!

THESE ARE SO FREAKIN' GOOD. Make them! Mine looked a little different this time (it seems like they rose more), but they taste just as grand.
Schmoopy (love the name), mine stuck a bit last time too..so I made sure and coated the pan generously with oil. My pan is not glass..I don't like baking in glassware for some reason, but my brownies did not stick this time. I mean, they are not coming out perfectly (like there's not a crumb left in the pan), but I wouldn't say they are sticking. Did you let them cool? Not that I let them cool..but that might make it easier. I dunno. Try a different pan? Grease and let cool.

These came out so GOOD!!!! I've tried a few brownie recipes and they usually come out with a cake like texture. I like my brownies gooey and this recipe accomplished it. My husband, friend and I finished it all last night. It really didn't make all that much so next time I will double the recipe. I highly recommend this recipe. ENJOY!!!!

This is THE best brownie recipe I've tried so far (and I've tried a lot)! It's chewy and has a great crispy crust which others lacked. The only thing I did differently was to replace a 1/2 cup of regular sugar with a 1/2 cup brown sugar b/c I ran out. It by far is the closest to non vegan brownies that I've tasted. Thanks for the great recipe!!!

I'm back. I just came to say these are just as amazing when the recipe is doubled, and placed in a 13x9 pan. I didn't do anything differently..just doubled everything, added chocolate chips, and poured it into a well greased 13x9. Amazing. Can't

the first night i was a little disappointed by these, but as time went on i really loved them. as they sat they got better tasting i thought, and were really good warmed up (although fresh from the oven the didnt taste sweet enough to me). they got that crispy top like you get from a duncan hines mix and were a good blend of fudgy/cakey. i think they'd be even better with some chocolate chips thrown in.

I forgot to add the baking powder AND the salt, and these were still the best vegan brownies I've made so far. Better than JOVB for sure. They get "crunchy" (but not really crunchy--chewy, maybe?) on the edges like a good brownie should, they form a crust on top, and they are nice and fudgy in the middle. Next time I will make them properly with the baking powder. Ha.
