Criss-cut Fries Like Chicken Nuggets

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    2 cups cooked garbanzo beans
    1/2 - 3/4 cups water
    juice from 1/2 a lemon
    1/2 small onion, diced
    2 fat cloves garlic, minced
    1 tablespoon hot sauce
    1 tablespoon soy sauce
    1/4 - 1/2 cups flour
    2 tablespoons cornmeal
1 teaspoon veggie chicken flavored stock powder
    1 tablespoon curry powder
    1/2 teaspoon adobo seasoning
    1/2 teaspoon white pepper
    oil for frying

Directions:

Blend the first 7 ingredients till smooth. It can be done in 2 batches, making the first batch with garbanzo beans and water only, so that it’s slightly chunkier than smooth. Mix both batches together. It should be the consistency of semi-thin hummus.

Mix in the next 6 ingredients to form a sticky, very thick paste. If you use more water you’ll need more flour and vice-versa.

Heat oil to med-high and fry spoonfuls of mix till dark brown, but not burned, turning 3-4 times. Drain on paper towels or newspaper.

Eat like chicken nuggets!  Yeayy! They taste like a mix between seasoned Carl’s Jr. Criss-Cut Fries and Chicken Nuggets/Fried Chicken. Vegan food’s the jam, yo!

Serves: 4

Preparation time: 30 mins

I'm not really one to fry foods but for some reason this recipe sounded really interesting and tastty to me.  It did not disappoint.  I didn't have chicken flavored veggie powder, only plain veggie so I used that and no adobo seasoning at all, otherwise I followed the recipe pretty much to a T.  Really interesting flavors with the curry powder, I'd almost cut back a bit on it, but maybe it's just the kind I used (hot madras).  These were really good with sweet and sour sauce!  Happy Meal days Laugh but much happier vegan style!

Hello Heidi3,
You should be able to find the veggie chicken flavored stock powder at most health food stores, esp. at co-ops. Usually located in bulk bins.

Adobo all purpose seasoning can be found in the spanish food section of most grocery stores. If you are unable to find it, I have listed the ingredients for you.

Adobo Seasoning
-tumeric
-salt
-granulated garlic
-oregano
Enjoy!!! Thumbs Up

These are very much like Indian Pakoras.  The batter is really good on Brocolli, Cauliflower and Asparagus!

Heidi3,

You could also make your own vegan chicken style broth powder with this recipe-I use it quite a bit and can vouch that it's a good one.

I made these for the 3rd or 4th time tonight.  This time I baked them - much easier and healthier and still super yummy!
