Crispy Apple Skins

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    the peels from 4-5 apples
    cinnamon
    sugar or other sweetener
    cooking spray

Directions:

This recipe was created because I did not want to throw out the peels from apples that I had used to make apple crisp.  I guess I would call this more of a technique than recipe...

Lightly spray a cookie sheet with the vegetable spray.  Take the peels from however many apples you have used in another recipe, and lay them flat on the cookie sheet with the skin side down.  Give another light spritz with the spray.  Sprinkle some cinnamon and sugar on top (I didn't really measure, just enough to lightly top each piece).  Since my oven was already on because of the apple crisp, I just popped the cookie sheet in the oven while the crisp was baking.  They were in there for 30-40 minutes at 350.  Stir them every so often so they do not burn.  Some will get all crispy like an apple chip and some stay chewy depending on how long you bake them.  So yummy - I ate them all in one day!  Enjoy  Smiley

Serves: 2-4

Preparation time: 30 minutes

I also made some apple crisp the other day and I used this recipe on the left over skins.  They were really yummy, but I'm sad to say that I burned some of them. Next time I wont leave them in so long.

I left mine in a tiny bit too long as well! But they still tasted good, there were only a few casualties.

Instead of using cooking spray, I just put the peels in a bowl and mixed them around with the sugar, cinnamon, and about a tablespoon of vegetable oil, and baked them on parchment paper.

Good recipe idea! It sucks to waste these things.

Mine were in the oven for 20 minutes at 375 degrees.  They burned to a crisp, the kitchen filled with smoke and I ruined a cookie sheet.  So, I don't suggest letting them go so long.

I made some applesauce and I had all these skins, so I made this out of them.  I LOVED them!  My whole family couldn't stop eating them.  We ate 10 apple's skins within 5 minutes  Grin

Mine were also quite tasty, except the burnt ones (they were in for just over 15 minutes, so y'all should probably check them at 10 minutes).
I didn't try it, but I'm sure an apple pie spice mix would also taste good instead of cinnamon...
