Tasty Whole Wheat Garlic Sticks

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

2 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour
1 cup of luke warm water
    2 tablespoons of yeast
1 and 1/2 teaspoons of salt
    4 tablespoons of vegetable oil
    soy cheese
1/2 cup of melted vegan margarine
    oregano to taste
    basil to taste
    garlic powder to taste

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Mix the yeast with the lukewarm water until the yeast is dissolved.  Add the salt and vegetable oil. Stir, then add the flour, and mix together. Knead dough with hands and add your choice amount of  oregano, basil, and garlic powder. Knead these into the dough until it has reached your preferred taste. Put dough on a pizza stone, or a cookie sheet and roll it out like a pizza. After it is flat cut it into bread stick shapes. Put it in the oven for 5 minutes.

While it is cooking in the oven for 5 minutes take your melted margarine and mince the garlic into it. Stir.

After the bread has been cooking for 5 minutes take it out and spread the margarine and garlic mixture on top of the sticks with a brush.  Then spread your desired amount of soy cheese on top.

Put bread back in the oven for 10 more minutes.  Then broil for 2 minutes.

Take out of oven and enjoy!

Serves: about 10

Preparation time: 30 mins

these are really easy to make. I halved the recipe and ate them for dinner- really filling and flavorful, great with a bowl of marinara sauce for dipping!  Smiley

Awesome, I made these but I mixed the recipe with another recipe by accident and added baking powder and baking soda. Besides mixing vegan margarine and garlic powder on the top, I shredded fresh garlic in a pan with earth balance vegan margarine and extra virgin olive oil. I cooked that and then put it on the sticks before cooking. It came out great, everyone loved them. I used olive oil with basil and oregano spices for dipping.

These are so good! I had to make them in about four batches b/c I only used one baking sheet. I added lots of basil, some oregano, and lots of garlic powder. I folded the end over so it wouldn't get burned..baked them for about 5 minutes..microwaved some EB (less than 1/2 cup) with some chopped garlic, brushed this on the sticks after 5 minutes, baked another 5 minutes, and then brushed some more after they came out. They are so addicting!

these rock! i halved the recipe and ended using a little more water in order to fully disolve the yeast. other changes: i mixed in my herbs (fresh rosemary, fresh basil, miced garlic, and garlic powder) with the flour before adding it to the yeast mixture; saved a little herbs for the butter to be brushed on top, with which I actually used half butter, half olive oil. i forgot the soy cheese, but they were still delicious.

thanks a lot!  Smiley

Very yummy.  I haven't found vegan cheese that i like, so I left it out.  I think the only other change I will make next time is with the cooking time.  I think it was a little to long for my oven.

These are awesome!!  I added Italian seasoning instead of the separate herbs and I skipped the soy mozzarella and used parma instead.  Next time I will roll them up on the ends like allychristine mentioned so they don't burn.  Also, if using parma, I don't recommend broiling as much as 2 minutes if at all. Some of the "cheese" and garlic burned a little. Also don't spill butter on the cookie sheet. Nevertheless a solid 5.  =-)
