After all the rave reviews I figured I'd better try these.  I added cumin and skipped the soymilk like some others have suggested, and it was definitely good.  I made burritos.  Just a suggestion...out of my array of hot sauces I liked the vinegary one the best on this, probably because it helped counter-act the sweetness a little.  In the future I'll probably add a squeeze of lemon or lime juice to the beans.  But maybe that's just me. Smiley Great recipe though, and so easy.

This was surprisingly good! I was nervous, but it was a snap to make, and it really does taste good enough to make again!  Thumbs Up

I've been wanting to try this now for awhile and finally had the opportunity tonight.
I did make some changes though...
I used a semi-ripe plantain instead of a banana. I also decided against using coconut milk even though I had it because I was afraid it'd be too heavy. I ended up using unsweetened vanilla almond milk for all the liquid and it was perfect. SLIGHTLY sweet like coconut milk, but not nearly as fatty or heavy. I served it with a side of Spanish style quinoa and a bit of tofutti sour cream. Thanks for the recipe!

Like others who had reviewed this recipe, I was worried about the bean/banana combination.  The banana added a new dimension of sweet to balance the spice of the beans.  Next time I would use less coconut milk.  Glad I tried it!

This recipe had my curiosity up for quite awhile and I FINALLY got to make it.  I followed the recipe except for using homemade almond milk instead of soy.  The outcome was good, unique, but not too exciting.  My curiosity is satisfied and my belly Tongue

i made this recipe because i love black beans and i love bananas but i really think this recipe is a little too plain. it needs more flavor than just heat. i might play around with it soon.  Cry

Yes, I was impressed by your edible sculpture. (-:

Looking forward to having access to real cooking facilities, storage of my own, etc, within a few weeks.

Don't know if I'm really qualified to review this recipe since I changed it up so much, but I did do the black beans/banana/coconut milk combo.  Coconut milk, to me, says curry, not cumin, so I doubled the beans to 4 cups cooked, one can of LITE coconut milk, 1 tsp curry pwd, 1/2 tsp garam masala, 1/4 tsp cayenne, about 1/4-1/3 cup chunky pb (sounds weird with beans, I know), and a healthy amount of salt.  The pb thickened up the milk, then I added the two bananas.  I served it over brown rice.  I thought it was really good, if a little unusual.  My husband wasn't so sure, but he's willing to withhold judgement until he tries it again after it's had time for the flavors to meld a bit more.

Overall, I would say definitely yummy comfort food.  I would make this again.

I just made this just to take a picture of it.  I was really skeptical about mixing it up with bananas and coconut milk,  but it's actually pretty good it just needs a little salt cause it's too bland.

Thanks for the quick recipie!!! Smiley

This was delicious and quick! I substituted the soymilk for more light coconut milk and used dried hot pepper flakes as well as chili powder for heat. Also, dried shredded coconut makes a nice garnish on top.

Good recipe. I wasn't sure what to expect, but all of the other reviews were helpful. I don't care for bananas, but I did enjoy them in the recipe. I did not care for it as much the next day nuked in the microwave tho, I'm gonna have to figure something else out for the reheating.  Smiley

Thanks for sharing.
