Tonight after class, a friend and I headed out to a cafe we used to frequent a great deal during the regular school year but hadn't been to in some time. Resigned to a bowl of vegetarian chili (though delicious vegetarian chili!) I still flicked over the menu. It had changed. New format and everything. And then my eyes espied so many treasures--food that I could actually eat! Tofu scrambles! Vegan bean burritos! And, just what I had been craving, vegan tostadas! I nearly squealed with delight!

All day long I'd been literally starving, currently residing in the omni household of my mother and grandmother. Last night I'd dined out with my family at a restaurant with nothing but meat, meat, meat and sickly salads and baked potatoes on the menu and had to sit next to my aunt and uncle, who both ordered really stinky fish. Gag! So, I wasn't in the highest of ickle vegan spirits. I had some mediocre vegetable soup for lunch and a bottle of Silk Vanilla. By the time class got out at 9 pm, I was SO HUNGRY and my hopes weren't too high.

Boy was I in for a treat! I got to feast on tostadas piled high with spinach, lettuce, salsa and tofu and a generous side of beans and rice! Yum! I cheered the entire way through the meal as my omni friend rolled his eyes.

It was a really great spirit boost. Smiley Just what I'd been needing!

There's an all vegan restaurant somewhat near where I live, but I haven't been there yet.  I've daydreamed about being seated and being able to order anything off of the menu.  Tongue

ahhh yes, I had a similar experience just the other day at an Indian restaurant.  It's exciting to be able to actually EAT while eating out!   Smiley  Sadly, where I live there are no vegan places but alot of restaurant do offer vegetarian items that can easily be veganized.  Still, it'd be nice to walk into a place a know that I could have whatever I want.

That's AWESOME!  so much selection...I love how us veggies get SO excited when we find places that we can eat!  I remember when I went back to Cali to visit my family my sis took me to a Chinese Vegetarian/vegan restaurant and I just about flipped from all the awesome food I could eat, the rest of my family was eating everything wishing they had meat or fish, but I was absolutely in Heaven!! It is always a boost to see the magic word on menus...  the other day I went to a mexican restaurant that had an option to replace meat with tofu sausage, and the menu specifically said that it was not vegan.  It'd be nice if they had vegan sausage... but even there I got a lift from seeing them acknowledge my existence, lol!

There's a fantastic vegan restaurant in Fort Worth--Spiral Diner--and I love so much being able to go there and order anything without having to worry about what hidden ingredients it might contain. And their food, well, let's just say it's incredible and leave it at that.
