Microwave Quick Bread!

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    whole wheat flour
    water
    baking soda

Directions:

In a microwavable container put in about 1-3 cups of flour, add in a "splash" of baking soda and as much water so that the batter resembles a thickened pancake. Pop this mixture into the microwave from 5-7 minutes depending how hard you want it...voila*!~

I made this up playing with my microwave...college kids dream machine essentially (O:

Serves: 1-3

Preparation time: 6 minutes

Hi,

This recipe looks wonderful, but could you please be a little more specific with the ingredient amounts?  Undecided What's a "splash?" And 1-3 cups is a pretty broad range. What did you use? Thanks, I'm looking forward to trying this! P.S. I have a microwave rectangular dish. Will it work in that?

I think my idea of a splash of baking soda is bigger than yours. Mine tasted pretty gross even though I sprinkled brown sugar and flax seed on it.

Ok, so after a little experimentation, I think I got this one down: for every 1/4 cup of flour, add 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda, and might I suggest adding about 1/8 teaspoon of salt as well? it turned out suprisingly good with jam and honey!

It came out like a rock. I think I didn't add enough water.

Okay, so this didn't quite turn out great for me, but I'm not ready to give up on it yet.  I took Glemron's advice and used the 1/8 tsp baking soda to 1/4 c. flour ratio.  I used these measurments and made a singe serving biscuit.  I only cooked it for 3 1/2 minutes and it still came out pretty tough.  Next time I will probably use half whole wheat and half unbleached white flour, and will have to experement to find the right cooking time for my microwave.  Thanks for the recipe, though, I really like the idea of being able to make some bread w/out having to turn on the oven in the heat of the summer!

I really had wanted this to work, but sadly I'm with most people in saying this just didnt work and ended up gross.

Mine didnt even look like bread, was just flat like a pancake?

I wish the person who posted this wouldve gave measurements or more instruction on how long to cook it, or whatever. Without that info it seems kind of pointless to try :/

I was really hoping this would turn out ok but it didn't go so well for me.

Appearance: the first thing that turned me off is that it very much resembles a cow pie. yeah, I know I shouldn't be judging food by its cover, but forgive me I couldn't help but notice.

Texture: mine turned out really rubbery. not pleasant. I used 1/8 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp baking soda for every 1/4 cup flour as well.

Taste: It was just gross. I didn't want to waste it all so I ate some of it with oil that had herbs in it, to hide the taste. At first it was ok but after a few more bites I gave up. The nasty taste still sticks in my mouth....

I figured if something sounds too good to be true (6 min bread Smiley it probably is... but I still cant help thinking maybe if I had added a bit of sugar or some oil or dried fruit or something to the dough it would have been worth it... at the moment I'm thinking it was kind of a waste but if I ever get desperate in a pinch again I might just try it again with something extra.

Reading the comments about the taste, I thought, "Hm, sounds like baking soda flavor."

So I used baking powder instead, and it worked fine! (I also added salt.)

By "fine," of course, I mean that it's exactly what I expected from bread out of a microwave: relatively flat (more baking powder might have fixed that) with a chewy texture almost like the outside of a dumpling.

It's a lot like when I steamed bread dough in a friend's rice maker.

In any case, this will probably get made the next time I crave bread on a lazy day.

I made this using nearly a cup of flour and about 3/4 cup of water and used baking powder, as someone suggested. It came out VERY good when I microwaved it for 5 minutes. I LOVE IT! Smitten

it was good, but it came out like a giant blob of pasta, good with margarine, but it wasnt bread, and I'm a big bread person  Embarrassed  but my roommate is still eating it and she's picky... ^_^  so kind of a success, but I want actual bread Sad  but i did 1 cup of flour, a "dash" of baking soda, and water until the consistency of pancakes Smiley

I made these for my girlfriend a few times now. Since the first time I did, seems it's all she wants for breakfast. Easy to make and pretty damn good as well! Thumbs Up

This was a very odd thing to say the least, i tried mixing what every one suggested, and i did...

one cup flour, 3/4 cups water, 1/2 tsp of both baking powder and 1/2 tsp.  soda.

i buttered a microwavable glass baking dish and put it in for 3 minutes, but my microwave is more powerful than most

It tasted like a pancake with alot of baking powder

it was very weird, if some one perfected this, i would try it again, but untill then i wouldnt attemt this again. i wouldnt consider it bread at all though...
