Corn Dogs - Yummy!!!

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    1/2 cup cornmeal
    1/2 cup whole wheat flour
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    1 teaspoon vegan sugar
3/4 cup plain soymilk (I use "Silk")
    1 egg replacer, beaten (I use "Ener-G")
vegan "hot dogs" (I use "Smart Dogs")
    vegetable oil
    Popsicle sticks or skewers

Directions:

Mix together dry ingredients.

Stir in soymilk and egg replacer.

Put hot dogs on skewers and dip into the batter until thoroughly coated. Fry in hot oil until brown.

Any extra batter can be fried by spoonfuls in pan for "hush puppies".

Totally bad for you - but awesome!!!

Serves: 4

Preparation time: 20 minutes.

I made these for my kids and hubby tonight and they really liked them. In fact, they all three went on and on. I didn't try them myself because I had some left over soup to eat.  Wink Thank you for the recipe. I might try to bake them and see how that goes. I think it will be a nice occasional lunch box treat

I made these tonight and they were GREAT!  Just what I wanted, and even better than the frozen ones I use to eat as a kid.

I didn't have any sticks or skewers, so I just rolled them in the batter with a spoon and plopped them into the pan.  I pan-fried them in safflower oil and they came out delicious.

Thanks for the recipe Laugh

Oh my gosh.  Shocked So I tried this recipe today and I cannot believe how good it is. You were right about one thing! ... It is very bad for you but awesome. I used yves hot dogs. I didn't have any soy milk so I used water instead and it turned out perfect. I also didn't fry it with the popsicle stick, I put that in afterwards. You don't need skewers or popsicle sticks. You can just use a fork or tongs. I know mine don't really look like corndogs, (They look all lumpy I know)  but they tasted great. I strongly suggest blotting these on a few paper towels, they can get a lot of oil trapped inside. Suprisingly this wasn't as messy as I thought it would be. Thanks for the recipe. I hope others try this at least once.  Cheesy
