This turned out really good!   I used the simple white cake recipe and coffee rather than coffee liquor.  Excellent!!!!

What size cake sheets do you use for this recipe - 13x9 (large, rectangular) or 8x8 (small, square)? I would like to make this tonight. Thanks!!!

Well, I decided to go with two 8x8 cakes, although for those making it in the future, there is DEFINITELY enough topping to cover two 13x9 cakes if you choose to do so. This was really tasty, and I'm sure it will be even better tomorrow after it has had some time to chill and harden in the fridge. If you are making it for a party, make it the day ahead, and make sure the cakes are completely cool first. I followed the recipe exactly except I used extra Kahlua (hehe). While it is delicious, it does not taste anything like tiramisu - it's more like "White Cake with Double Frosting" or a more creative name that indicates such. It has, however, inspired me to try to make vegan tiramisu. Thanks!

This cake tastes great... but mine didn't look like much.  I thought I followed the directions, and I made the cake sheets the day before I even started the filling/topping, so they were beyond cooled - but both were too liquid-y and dripped down the sides of the cake.  I must have measured some things wrong, I guess.  So it wasn't pretty, but the flavor was great.  I agree that it's not really tiramasu, but it's still a wonderful idea for a cake - if I could just pull it off!  For next time, I think I'll add a lot less soy milk to the chocolate, at least.

I used this cake for my sister's birthday and she loved it.  I still can't seem to make this icing thick enough to stay in place... so I decided to just work with it the way it is, and it turned out kind of cute anyway.

I made this today and I have to say veryy good! I did do some changes, I added to the cheese mixture 2 tsp cinnamon, 1 T of Karo Syrup, and 1T of powdered sugar, I feel like it creamed and sweetened it up to my liking. I also used a lot more liqueur, mmmmm. and topped it off with more powdered sugar. Very close, very close indeed

Update! I have continued to work with this recipe (my boyfriend is Italian) and have come up with a filling that is closer to the original.  The five minute minnesotan mousse recipe with the cream cheese variation at the bottom by far has come closest in his opinion
