Popeye's Smoothie

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

3 cups of raw, whole, washed spinach
1 cup frozen (or unfrozen) strawberries
    2 frozen (or unfrozen) bananas
    2 cups water
2 tablespoons (or to taste) agave nectar
    1 tablespoon EFA oil

Directions:

This is the easiest way for me to consume raw greens! Don't be turned off by the spinach/fruit combo, the greens cannot be tasted at all. This is a good way to get kids to eat more greens also.

Place all ingredients into a blender and blend it up till the bits of green are teeny tiny and the whole thing is smooth and without chunks.

Enjoy!

Eating greens has never been easier!

Serves: Makes 4 cups

Preparation time: 5 minutes

this is a good basic recipe. it does taste really "healthy" and the spinach flavor is pretty dominant. if you like a less sweet smoothie, make as listed. if you want something a little sweeter, i would suggest using orange juice (or another juice) instead of water. i like the idea of adding spinach--i'll keep this idea for the future!

i actually make this exact same recipe all the time...but with no agave nectar or oil, because I don't really see a reason.. occasionally I'll add a little bit of ground flax or hemp seeds.

i make smoothies like this all the time, but with added hemp protein powder and no extra sweetener. also, sometimes i'll use kale instead of spinach.
the taste takes a little getting used to but now i crave them Smiley these smoothies make you feel GOOD!

what's that thing about not eating fruits and vegetables together?? i thought it was ridiculous when i first heard it cuz most of the things we consider vegetables are fruits anyway, but i've heard that it does have negative effects on the digestive system.... anyone know?

I've heard of that too....I think it's a load of crap, unless it's just about alkaline/acid balances in yourbody. I know that certain fruits/vegetables have a slightly negative effect when eaten together because of the state they leave your digestive system in, but it's not really that big of a deal...

I made this but instead of adding orange juice (as was recently suggested) I added a chopped orange.
