Yummy Banana-Fruit Sorbet

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    2 bananas
    1/2 cup plain soy milk
2 to 3 tablespoons of organic, non-bleached cane sugar
second fruit of your choice (optional, good with strawberries!)

Directions:

In a small bowl, preferably with a lid, mash the bananas with a fork until reasonably smashed and the consistency is a little gooey. Add the organic, non-bleached cane sugar (to your taste), and mix. (Also add your second fruit if you have one.)

Pour the soymilk, mixing once more. Place lid over the top of the bowl and freeze between 1 and 2 hours.  May take longer, depending on your particular freezer.

I don't know how this recipe would turn out with bleached sugar, it may not be as good. The completed consistency is usually somewhat frozen with a slight icy mush to it. Dig in!

Great for kids!

Serves: 2

Preparation time: 1 to 2 hours

this was a very good, simple recipe, and a simple delicacy for those hot days nearing the beginning of summer. the banana has a nice, smooth texture, and i certainly dont miss ice cream at all after this. i added in some cocoa for fun.

It was so good, Although I did make some small adjustments. For one I only used Banana and Nuts...Then added 1/8 tsp vanilla. After it was ready from the freezer I added a dash of cinnamon on top of sherbet.

oh yum!  this is marvelous!
I've been addicted to making ice cream lately, usually with tofu, and this straight-up fruit dessert is a great change of pace.
I used to very large, very ripe bananas and about 1 1/2 cups of a frozen berry blend (strawberries, blackberries, cherries and raspberries).  I didn't bother with adding any sugar, as the overripe banana added plenty of sweetness, and I also didn't add soymilk because I'm out at the moment.  I'm definitely going to try this again once I make a grocery run for more soymilk.

I have a beautiful photo of my creation, but my laptop is being fixed right now, so I can't load it up and post it here for a while!   Cry   I swear, if anyone beats me to posting a photo of this one...oooo buddy... Angry

this did not go well for me...i used 1 banana and some thawed frozen fruit (strawberries, mango, pineapple). the color was really gross, the consistency was weird, and it definitely did not remind me of sorbet.  oh well...

Silly question, but....did you freeze the mixture?  it's really the ice that forms along with the mashed fruit that gives it a good texture.  In fact, if you have a blender or food processor, you can just toss in all your frozen fruit and blend it up...you could even freeze the soymilk (if you want to use it) in an ice tray and throw that in the blender, too.

You can see in my photo that the sorbet is starting to melt and lose its form (hey, it took a while to adjust the lighting)...so you'll want to eat it right away before it melts into a liquit fruit smoothie.  And as for the color, well....commercial, packaged sorbet in the freezer aisle will usually contain artificial colors to make it look more appealing.  As this recipe only calls for real fruit and no other junk, the color will just depend on what fruits you add to it....Mine was just bananas and mixed berries, and the color was rather appealing.

5 stars! I used 1 banana, about 1/4 of a cup of frozen blueberries, 1/4 cup of soy creamer and 2 tsp. of agave nectar. It was great! Thanks for the recipe, I'll be using this probably a couple of times a week.
