Pan Fried Ginger Sesame Tofu

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

14 oz. tofu, firm or extra firm
    1/4 cup 807]cornstarch[/url] or flour
    canola oil
1/3 cup sesame seeds, lightly toasted
    scallions
    Sauce:
2/3 cup (or to taste) liquid sweetener (maple, rice, agave syrup, etc)
    3 tablespoons Tamari
1 tablespoon finely minced ginger (or finely grated on microplane)
2 tablespoon sesame oil, not toasted
2 tablespoon rice Wine vinegar, or mirin
    2 cloves garlic, finely minced
    1-2 teaspoons red chili flakes

Directions:

Drain and press tofu VERY well. Wrap in towel and weight it with a heavy object.

Stir together sauce ingredients in sauce pan. Simmer over low heat.

Cube or cut tofu and dust lightly with cornstarch or flour.  Heat 1" of oil in deep frying pan. Fry tofu in 350 deg. oil (about med heat) until golden brown.

Place tofu on large platter and toss with sauce, amount as desired. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and scallions.

Serve extra sauce over veggies, rice, noodles, etc.

Yummo! this was soooo good. Make sure you don't let the sauce simmer too long, otherwise it gets really thick and gooey. Too gooey to coat the tofu. It was the yummiest thing I've made in a long time! Even the leftovers were outstanding!

Very good. My husband ate 2 bowls, even with brown rice. Easy to make, will make again!

This recipe is wonderful!! It was so good, I recommended my Omni mother to make it with meat for the rest of the family. I don't usually do that, but this was too good for anyone to miss out on. Will make again, and again, and again!
