Broccoli with Orange Peel and Walnuts

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

2 cups broccoli pieces (bite size)
1 orange; remove peel in one inch strips with a veg. peeler. Remove any white pith with a
    1 tablespoon veg. oil
    1/4 - 1/2 cup walnuts (or pecans)
1/4 - 1/2 tablespoon finely minced fresh ginger
2 tablespoon reduced sodium soy sauce
juice of the orange from which the peel was removed
    1/2 tablespoon lemon pepper

Directions:

Heat oil over medium heat in a 12 inch non-stick skillet.  Add orange peel and nuts.  Saute until peel just begins to turn golden on edges.  DO NOT BURN!  This will take only two to three minutes.  Add broccoli and saute five minutes.  While cooking broccoli, sprinkle mixture with the orange juice.  After about four minutes, add soy sauce and lemon pepper.  Stir well and serve either hot, warm, or chilled.

Serves: 2 - 3.

Preparation time: 20 mins.

I made this for my family for Thanksgiving, and it was the only dish that did not have leftovers.  It was delicious.

Maybe I did something wrong, but the lemon flavor was a little too overwhelming in this and made the broccoli taste kind of sour.  It was good but just a little too tangy for us.  But I do love broccoli, mmmm mmmm.

This dish was too tangy for those perferring a more mild side. I enjoyed it but my boyfriend couldnt finish his.

This recipe was a big hit at my work holiday party and at a family dinner.  Delicious way to spice up broccoli.

just as good as i was excepting it to taste  Smiley

oranges arent in season right now where i am, so i couldnt get a fresh one.. i did have some diced candied orange peel and orange juice tho, so i used those instead (about 1/4 cup of each) and just plain black pepper instead of lemon pepper.. it was so good! i ate it with rice for lunch Smiley

oh also its very hard to get broccoli here but i managed to get a small head.. it wasnt 2 cups tho.. but  i did have a bunch of broccoli leaves, which taste like the heads, but have leafy parts as well as the stalks, so i used those and the head i had to equal 2 cups chopped... it was great!

Total flavor explosion!  It was odd to have broccoli taste tart, but also pretty delicious.  I didn't have fresh ginger, but I liked it regardless...

This is really delicious and so easy to make!  I love being able to use simple ingredients to create such a unique and flavorful dish-- I will make this again soon.  I added water chestnuts, a few drops rice vinegar and a bit of chopped cilantro and served it over rice.  YUM!

Excellent recipe.    I did add some diced water chesnuts but otherwise followed recipe exactly.    Delicious and the family enjoyed it.   Will make again.

This was so delicious. i am a complete broccoli feind so of course it had to be good! I have never been much of a fan of walnuts and almost substituted penuts instead, but im glad  I didnt. Finished it off with some brown rice and an unreasonable amount of delicious chili sauce! Thanks for the recipe

Yummy!  I got lazy when I was squeezing my orange and just kind of tore it apart and put the whole think in the frying pan.  It actually ended up working well!  Nice easy dish--thanks!
