Mmmmm! I was suddenly "stricken" with a hankerin' for chili...and I am very satisfied, now. The only thing I measured was the cocoa, and I used 2 heaping tbs. I added one portabello mushroom in w/ the onion, two garlic cloves, about 5 red and green chilies from my dad's garden, some Gimme Lean "sausage", a whole, big can of chunky tomato sauce, one small yukon potato chopped very small, and the rest of my homecooked bean mix (pinto, black......others). Oh, I also added a little bit of dried basil.  Tongue

This is a REALLY great recipe. I had to modify it a bit because I can't find all of the right spices here- I can't find chili powder or cayenne. So I use cumin, salt, loads of black pepper, paprika, maybe a mixed herb salt and thats all. And it is STILL fantastic- really, to me it is exactly what chili should taste like.
Also, I use white beans instead of black and I love it- they're so much bigger and meatier.
I never put corn in for the sake of my SO and I add the small dehydrated soy pieces and it takes the place of ground beef really well.
It's such a great, easy, quick recipe. I make it at least once a month and then the two of us happily eat it for days (might I add that he is a typical carnivore)

HOLY CROW. This was AMAZING !

I used canned tomatoes with the juice, one onion, added a liberal shake (or two) of bay leaves, a tiny bit of liquid smoke and used barley because I didn't have any bulgur. Also had only one can of beans left - kidney beans - so I just used the one & it still turned out awesome. I omitted corn because the person I was eating with doesn't like it, but next time I think I will add it (corn is delicious! I can't believe I know someone who disagrees). I didn't have any worcestershire sauce left but next time I do I'll add it too. The cocoa was a really good addition, didn't taste chocolatey but made it richer and a nice colour.

I also made a funky version of the outrageously easy big bread to go with it. SOOO GOOD. It's already all gone so I'm going to make more this week!

So quick and easy to make...uses ingredients I always have around the kitchen! This recipe makes ALOT so I halved it and was still able to fill a medium pasta pot (will be wayyy more than enough for 4 college girls). The original recipe must call for the BIG can of tomatoes, because I used the 14.5 oz can for the halved recipe, and that seemed just about right. I used diced tomatoes, so no chopping involved. Other changes: used one roasted red pepper from a jar, used 1 red onion, 2 cloves garlic, paprika instead of cayenne, omitted salt and barley (I'll be serving it with rice).

THis was delicious!  I used some mock hamburger meat as well as half a block of crumbled extra firm tofu instead of the bulgur.  It was super filling, and super delicious.  This will be made many many times over the course of this winter!

YUM!

I love this chili. I think its the best I've ever had!

 Smitten

The only thing I omitted was the bulgur. I couldn't find it in the supermarket, and we don't really have health food stores around here. Next time I make this I will try a little harder to find it.

Excellent chili!  I especially love the texture that the bulgur wheat gave it.  I used all the ingredients listed but only added 1 onion (which was perfect...I think 3 would have been way too many), 2 tbsp. of cocoa powder (seemed to be just right) and 1 cup of corn.  The recipe makes a ton...I will have lunch for the next two days plus still some left over to freeze!

Mighty tasty.  I found it needed more spice so I put in a lot more chili powder, cumin and cayenne.  Also added mushrooms and a couple dashes of balsamic vinegar.

This very SO delicious! I loved it! It got better the next few days after I made it. I followed the recipe word for word, so I would suggest to everyone else to do the same. Goes great with some vegan cornbread! Awesome!

I made this yesterday afternoon to compliment the rainy weather and it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO delicious. I think the best chili I have ever had. I added some veggie crumbles and habenero too but it certainly would have been fine without. Im going to be making this dish a ton!

This was AMAZING! Thank you so much for sharing it, it will definitely be one I make again and again. I didn't have any bulgar, so I just omitted that and it was still excellent  Smiley

This was the BEST chili I've ever had.  My sons loved it and the recipe made enough for at least 8.  I can't wait for the cold weather to come so I can make it often.  Thanks!

This was okay... i added half as much coco powder and am glad i did because it was overpowering,  2 cups broth in place of the 1 cup water, mixed in a couple tablespoons of cilantro, topped the chili with avocado slices, and mixed in some ketchup... i think the avocado and ketchup saved the chili for me.

This stuff is just...AWESOME!!!  I only used 1 onion and 1 pepper, but other than that, followed the recipe exact.  Had a big bowl with vegan sour cream, last night, and made a big Frito Pie with it, tonight - SO DELISH!!!  My husband kept saying "Man, this is so good!".  I got a BIG KISS after this dinner - ha!  Cheesy
