BBQ Onion Sandwich

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

One Vidalia or other sweet onion
    Two Kaiser rolls
1/2 cup Barbeque Sauce (homemade stuff is always better)

Directions:

Slice onion and seperate into rings.  Saute onion in a few tbsp. of water or vegetable broth.  When the onions are soft and limp and about 1/2 c. of BBQ sauce.  Scoop this onto your kaiser and serve them up.

This is not only vegetarian but low fat too.

Nutrional Info: low fat, tastes great.

Serves: 2

Preparation time: 20 minutes

This is a great sandwich for when you go to cookouts, etc.  When I first started eating vegetarian, I made something similar by just putting the onion on a hamburger bun, running it into the toaster oven, then putting the sauce.  All the taste of real barbecue!

great idea but watch out for that bbq sauce..It usually contains worstershire sauce which contains fermented anchovys.not something we want to be eating.

I made this with a vegetarian brand sauce. I loved it alot.  I think it really gives you that bar-b-que style taste without the ....well you know what I mean.

This sandwich is excellent!!  I've found myself making lots of these when I come home from work at night and don't feel like cooking.  It almost sounds too simple to be satisfying, but its really incredibly scrumptious!

EXCELLENT recipe!!  I used my homemade thick and rich bbq sauce and served it all on thick slices of sourdough -- cole slaw on the side.

Started with caramelized vidalia onions that I had previously cooked in the crock-pot and frozen for future use.  Thawed them yesterday for something else, heated them up today with BBQ sauce, added pickles to the toasted sandwich... Easiest ever!  Good too!

Smiley  This was really great! I added piclkles, tomatos, lettuce and a little of dragonfly's uncheese sauce. YUM! The only thing I would recommend is chopping the onions, because if you leave them as rings when you take a bite all of the onions come out together... anyway, thanks for the great idea!
