French Onion Dip

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    1 lb. silken tofu
    1 tablespoon Oil
    2 tablespoon ReaLemon juice
1 tablespoon Turbinado or other sweetner
1 Package Lipton Onion Soup powder

Directions:

Blend tofu, oil, lemon, and vegan sugar in blender until smooth.

Blend in the soup mix.

Optional, you may choose to refrigerate this mixture to let the spices affect the tofu, but I didn't feel it was necessary. This is a great veggie dip, not unlike the common centerpeice of a fresh veggie tray.

Serves: many

Preparation time: 15 min max

I was curious if Lipton Onion Soup Mix was vegan.  Sometimes the listing natural flavoring can be animal based.  Does anyone know for sure?

I would recomend using Fantastic soup mixes. I believe they have an onion one. I use their vegetable one for my spinach dip..

Lipton has a line of Kosher soup/recipe mixes - just like the regular ones but Parve, which means neither milk nor meat.  Likewise, if your market carries Israeli products, Osem soup mixes are mostly vegan (onion, consomme, vegetable, mushroom, etc.)unless they specifically say meat.

I didn't know Parve meant no milk or meat, this was interesting.  Googled and found this interesting article: http://www.jivdaya.org/kosher_parve_certification_what.htm.  It also says the following: Kosher Parve products are allowed to contain, according to Jewish laws, eggs, honey, and fish. So you still need to read the label.  Thanks for teaching me something new!
