What DVD are you watching lately?

I have BBC's Persuasion on, but I can't really get into. I've heard thought that BBC's Sense & Sensibility is good. Of course I"ve watched the Ang Lee Emma Thompson version which is superb... I may get it this week to see  :P

We started watching A & E's Pride and Prejudice today in my humanities class. We're reading it too but watching the movie in chunks.

The other day I watched Blindness which was really good. I love Mark Ruffalo.

Oh! I bought a whole lot of DVDs the other day in a sale. Fight Club, 21 Grams, Corpse Bride and the Golden Compass which I've seen three times in Russian but not once in English.

My sweetheart and me just watched Shooting Dogs about the genecide in Rwanda and the one about the assassination of George Bush which I can't remember the name of it. We are very partial to true stories or documentary type films. Shooting Dogs was very troubling to see people being left to slaughter when the UN forces could have protected them. Don't let your children watch it for sure. The other one was interesting but my wife didn't get it and fell asleep. It was mostly about stereotyping and how easy it is for the government to take away our rights.

Just rented An Inconvenient Truth, by Al Gore.  It's really interesting. (about the environment).  If this dosent open people's eyes about the urgency of the whole 'we are killing the planet or at least heading for trouble soon' thing, then I dont know what will.  :(

Lately I've watched Ed Wood - hilarious and recommended for friends of weird humour. Kiki's delivery service - a feel good movie with less scary elements than most of Studio Ghibli's movies. Persepolis - a movie that manages to be happy and light going despite its very heavy thematics of growing up during the Iranian  revolution and having to leave the country.

I agree with you. Unfortunately it's "inconvenient" for people to change some of their habits - it takes longer, it is a hassle... when in reality it is not it's just creating a new habit.

I really do hope that people can start to see that we need to change our ways as of the 1980's! (I remember being a kiddo in the 80's and recycling and saving the Earth we things I learned about in school... almost 30 years later and it still hasn't driven the point home?) It's frustrating, I keep hoping that the little things that I do will start rubbing off on others and it keeps going that way!

i'm still making my way through my Ranma 1/2 dvds, halfway through season 3.

the BF and i watched Hancock the other night and it was a lot better than we thought it was going to be. I watched Burn After Reading last week and it was sooooo disappointing. I thought it would be funny but it wasn't at all and just kinda messed up.

It's time to watch Vanya on 42nd Street again. And then I think I'll take a walk down 84 Charing Cross Road.

I'm glad someone else thought Burn After Reading wasn't very funny.  It had a few moments but they were few and far between.

We got a Roku box so we can watch the netflix instant watches on the tv instead of the computer and my DH has been on a All Creatures Great and Small binge!  We watched the first series of A Bit of Fry and Laurie, starring Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie (House!) over the weekend.  It's very funny even if we don't know any of the real people they make fun of!

Just finished watching "Sybil" for the first time in years and I forgot how amazing Sally Field was in that role.  That pretty much catapulted her from being some silly TV actress to an award-winning, dramatic actress.  Very disturbing and yet touching movie.  I highly reccomend it if you haven't seen it yet.

Ive been home sick, throwing up all day...so I decided to watch numb3rs....then "gone baby, gone" may I just say "oh my freaking gosh!!!! that is the WORST movie on the face of the planet. Every "good guy" is killed, put in jail or loses the only person they love....the missing children in the movie are either killed or returned to situations worse than their captors.... I was horrified....and I was crying because children actually live like the little girl in the movie...was the director (Ben Afflack) trying to show the "danger" or absolute good and bad? was he trying to show the viewer where their own perceptions of whats good, bad and "right" can be so easily altered by circumstances? Is Ben Alflack capable of such thought???? :o
