What DVD are you watching lately?

I have BBC's Persuasion on, but I can't really get into. I've heard thought that BBC's Sense & Sensibility is good. Of course I"ve watched the Ang Lee Emma Thompson version which is superb... I may get it this week to see :P
The original 1963 version of The Pink Panther, the first-ever Clouseau film, with a cast of great actors who are now, unfortunately, all dead (except maybe Robert Wagner, I'm not sure about him.) I use it in my English classes because the first 20 min are mostly action and I can pause it and ask questions and they get into it without being intimidated by a lot of talk, and it's funny. And they just came out with a remake of it with (cringe) Steve Martin. Sorry if there are any SM fans out there but I didn't think he was all that funny when I was 15 and he was the new guy. He will never, can never, be Peter Sellers.
And I always wonder: how can you hope to have a good remake of what was a resounding sucess when it first came out? I mean, anyone can improve on a disaster, but how can you hope to improve on something that worked perfectly the first time?
And why do we live in the Age of the Remake? Granted, we've taken the action film about as far as it can go, but what ever happened to scriptwriters? Don't they have original ideas anymore?
I like Steve Martin but didn't years ago and wouldn't like to see him in a remake of The Pink Panther because Peter Sellers was brilliant. Does your dog bite? What a funny movie that was.
I think a perfect example of a remake that they shouldn't have re-made was The Titanic. The black and white version of many years ago was amazing. I did not enjoy the remake at all. At the end when what's his name was in the water hanging on to the ice, I was shouting, step on his hands and let him sink. Enough already. Sorry fans of the new Titanic. Many of you are probably too young to have seen the original. Now if you watched it for the first time, the remake would be in your mind and you would probably think the original sucked.

Oh the secretary! I have seen parts of it, but my roommates rave about it all the time! I can't wait to watch the whole thing. I hear there is a lot of kinky stuff and Masochism... >:D
The last movie I watched on DVD was SAW V, and the last movie I watched (on netflix) was Enchanted. Try to sort out my personality with that!
I'm pretty obsessed with Flight of the Conchords right now. My boyfriend has the complete first season on dvd and it is endlessly funny!! You can get it on netflix too if you can't find it. SO FUNNY!!
me and one of my suitemates are rewatching all of her Buffy DVD's.I loooooove Buffy lol.
Aside from that, I just got my copy of Repo! the Genetic Opera. It's actually really good, i thought.
recently my hubby and i re-watched Run Fat Boy Run...LOVE that movie....
we also watched Baghead. It is pretty cool...actually better than i thought it would be.

Al Pacino's "Looking For Richard." I'm sorry so much of the stuff they filmed in costume, of the actual play, ended up on the cutting room floor. I bet it was great.

Last dvd film I watched was 'Taken' and really enjoyed it. Now I'm going through my collection of 'Red Dwarf' the whole series just kills me :-D
I working through the Evil Dead series right now. I'm generally not a fan of horror, but after the first movie, they get pretty funny. I also saw The Big Lebowski for the first time the other day... friggin sweet. :-D

I love The Big Lebowski. The character "Smokey" is played by Jimmie Dale Gilmore in his only (so far) acting job where he wasn't playing himself as he did in the movie The Thing Called Love . JDG is one of the greatest Americana artists ever. Check out his album "One Endless Night" some time.

Doing prep for classes which start again Monday: Branagh's Hamlet. I tried to listen to his commentary on the DVD but he is soooo up himself I couldn't manage more than about an hour. Honestly. You could hear his tame Shakespeare expert (who also commented when he could get a word in) getting impatient with him.
Johnny Depp in The Libertine. Life of John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester. Once again, the director was sooo up himself the commentary was unbearable: "Look how important I am, I made this film so badly that it's almost incomprehensible even to students of Rochester, but I am so cool! Look at me! Look at me! Yes, it's poorly lit, yes, the sound is mush, yes, the long shots make no sense, but look at me! Look at me!"
If you could hear the sound track, it might be better. Same problem with Beowulf and Grendel. I was going to buy that one on DVD for the English subtitles, only to discover--it has none. I guess the tech team couldn't make out the dialogue, either!
And trying not to give in to my urge to pull a Jane Austen Film Fest for the next three days, which is what I really want to do: Sense and Sensibility again, followed by Emma, followed by Persuasion.

I totally agree! I also kind of like the vampires in 30 Days of Night. They were monsters and that's what I've always thought vampires would be. Near Dark was a much better film though.
Last film I watched was Quarantine.....it was so annoying, I really wanted to slap that bitch by the end.
trying to find time to watch "Inkheart" as i just finished reading the first book in the trilogy (i'm now reading the 2nd book, Inkspell but i don't imagine a movie sequel to be forthcoming)
I'm in the process of getting Legend of the Drunken Master, the 1994 Jackie Chan movie.
