You are here

What are your go-to movies?

What are the films you have watched again and again and still enjoy?
What films do you turn to on a bad day, or when you're in bed with the flu, or just want to be entertained?
What films do you never get tired of?

My absolute favourite is Vanya on 42nd Street.
My comfort films are Babette's Feast and Moonstruck.
I know huge chunks of these three by heart.

For "just entertainment", a select few classic musicals, or anything with Bogart in it. And Marianne Sagebrecht's films.

most of them are silly and sappy, but here are someoff the top of my head:  Grease, An Imiatation of Life, Rear Window, Love Story, 16 Candles, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, The Philadelphia Story, anything w/ Jimmy Stewart, Dazed and Confused, Anchor Man, Step Brothers

Oh, well--for TV it's gotta be Dharma and Greg. I never get tired of that.
And Mash but I could only afford 3 seasons. That thing's expensive here!

My movies I never get sick of -

There Will Be Blood
V for Vendetta
Se7en
Addams Family/Addams Family Values
Home Alone
Scream
House on Haunted Hill (original/Vincent Price version)
Beetlejuice
Edward Scissorhands
Willy Wonka (original/Gene Wilder verison.....even though I really liked the Tim Burton version too)

PS.  I also never get sick of the I Love Lucy tv show

eta: I also never get sick of the old horror/thriller films from the 60's and earlier -or- the cheesy horror films from the 70's and 80's.

Cannibal: the musical
The 13th Warrior
Golden Earring
Cabin Boy
Galaxy Quest
Ong-Bak (any of them)
The Dirty Dozen
Blood of Heroes
...wow, not sure what that list says about me.
I swear I'm not a dude.
Cold Comfort Farm would be a go-to, but the audio on my DVD sucks.
It serves me right for buying it instead of downloading it.

Beetlejuice
Mrs. Doubtfire

I don't really "go to" any movies over and over, because that has always seemed weird to me, but I've watched those ^ two more than most others. I watched Beetlejuice every day as a kid, and Mrs. Doubtfire is always comforting. I also used to watch Curly Sue every day.

we only watch a movie once every couple of months, really, and I've never watched one when sad or sick, so these aren't 'go-to's so much as favourites, but anyway...
No Country for Old Men
The Departed
Lucky Number Slevin
Equilibrium

I forgot "Mediterraneo" (Italian movie, Best Foreign Picture back in the late 80's or so). Before we had air con, I used to watch it in the summer when it was too hot to move. It seemed to lower the temp on the room by a good 5 degrees. We have air con now, but it's still a great chillout movie.

It's a known fact that I have no life...there are movies I actually have no idea how many times I've seen. Like I saw the very first Star Wars film over 25 times. At that time, people kept inviting me to the cinema to see it and I'd say "I've seen it" and they'd say, "Oh come on, I'm treating" and we'd go again. That was back in the days before VCRs were common, even.

Uncle Vanya, Moonstruck, "Un Monde Presque Paisible" must all be right up there, too.

Well, you obviously haven't watched it that much then! The correct response is "I...  didn't say anything"
